This morning on my way to school my hood flew up and jammed up and I almost wrecked into a pole. I jumped up on it and pulled it down the best I could and then grabbed some wire and tied it shut and went to school. I found online today that there is a recall on the secondary hood latch for my 1997/3500 and that it needs to be replaced. What should I do that it already happend?! Need help ASAP if someone could call my cell phone or respond by PMing me soon I would really appreciate it. Call 1-716-982-3600 after 1:30pm on 10-19-04 Thanks TDR

My brother's 97 3500 does the same thing. so far the hood hasn't come up, but it will become lose and start floating around. Aggravatin to have to stop and shut it again all the time, but at least it hasn't come all the way up yet.

Did not know there was a recall for the latch, but I'm glad to hear it! Oo.

Anybody out there with information on this recall would be very helpful!

The problem with the secondary latch is that in conditions where salt is used on the road, the hook becomes seized and doesn't latch when the hood is closed. If this happens and the primary latch comes open, the hood will fly open. My '94 was recalled twice. I went in the first time but not the second time. I keep it well oiled now.

If that recall is outstanding on your truck Daimler/Chrysler will pay to replace hood and hinges and windshield or roof if damaged from hood coming up. We have done several at our dealership.
