FYI

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - DaimlerChrysler Corp. DCX. N)(DCXGn. DE) is recalling 701,000 Dodge Ram pickup trucks because of a spring problem on the hood latch, federal safety officials said on Wednesday.

The recall involves 1994-99 model years, and there is special focus on trucks registered or located in the Northeast or Midwest, areas where metal corrosion rates are higher because of the heavy use of road salt during winter.

The government said corrosion of the return spring on the secondary hood latch could cause the mechanism to stick in the release position.

If the primary hood latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly.

Dealers will replace the secondary hood latch, safety officials said.

The recall took effect in February but was not announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (news - web sites) until Wednesday.

Jesus-H-Christ, in the 2 years I've been visiting this board, I have yet to read a single thread on someones' hood flying up, but I've read (and wrote) many a complaint about brake pull that will put you in the ditch or in the oncoming lane. Yet that doesn't deserve a recall.

Pathetic!! #ad

No bull. No hood latch issues but a recall, Tons of brake pull issues and no recall. It is hard to believe isn't it?

This cracks me up! How in the world do I get a job like those moroons have. They found a secondary spring that could/maybe/might/someday rust and then the primary must fail-- #ad
#ad
They must be working from the front to rear--so they will address the brake issue, as soon as they study the 7,345,721 other parts that are between the hood latch & front brake line. #ad

Did you see our "older brothers" (12V owners) are finely getting there throttle cables recalled. they say "these MIGHT fray, causing loss of power". From what I here, they WILL fray.
Wonder if they are going to PAY for all the ones fixed up to this point?

The reason the brake issue has not yet been addressed is because they are still trying to figure out the muffler bearing situation.

I just checked my '94 Salt belt truck. The secondary hood latch spring has a little corrosion on it, but moves freely and does not bind.

How did they get that out of all the STEERING problems,
BRAKE problems, VACUUM problems, STARTER problems..... ETC
