I have a '93 D250 extended cab that the
hood latch is stuck in so that the hood
cannot be opened.

I've looked at this truck from several angles
and there appears no easy way to open the
hood without pulling the hood latch.

Is this a unique problem or am I looking at
something the wrong way?

'93 D250 & '01 D2500 both Cummins powered.

cuzy,
If the handle inside won't pull out then usually if you have someone push down on the front of the hood while you pull on the handle it will usually release, after you get it open lubricate the latch hardware and the cable.
If the cable is broken and the handle just pulls out and doesn't do any thing you have a much greater problem, the easiest way to figure this out is to look at the latch on someone elses open hood so you can see what the cable pulls on then you have to figure out how to get into it and pull it, I bought an 85 Dodge that the cable was broken on but there was no engine in it so I just crawled in from underneath, I think that you will have to go in from under the front fender with a piece of wire with a hook bent on the end to be able to pull the latch if the cable is broken or maybe from the side between the hood and fender.
Good Luck, hope the cable isn't broken and hope this info helps.

Why do you need under the hood, these Cummins are good for many miles??? #ad

I tried that and it failed. Ended up pulling
the inside fender out, cutting the old cable
there to get to the wire and pulling the wire
from there. Hood sprung open at that point.

When I took the rest of the assembly apart, I
noticed a lot of rust on the cable assembly
from one end to the next.

Will go to the Dodge dealer Monday and snag a
new cable assembly.

I like to show off how well one of these
Cummins with 192,000 miles ages.

And it is really hard to change the oil with
no access to the top of the engine. Gotta
keep 'em lubed.

HAPPY RAMMIN

Thanks Caleb!
