I am bringing to your attention a problem I am having with the hood on my 2019 3500. While traveling north on Hwy 95 (2 lane) in Nevada pulling my 5th wheel at 60 mph I met a semi with trailer going south. When we were side by side the hood closest to the windshield lifter at least an inch. This happen several time and scared me each time. This never happened to my 2013 3500. My dealer has reported this problem up the chain.

I've noticed also the hood on my 2019 3500 flops around when going over 75mph, Even more so if I'm driving into a head wind. It's like the wind catches the front leading edge and wants to rip the hood off the truck. I pulled over once to make sure it was latched completely as the way it was moving I for sure thought is was only half latched. I'm sure FCA's 2019 switch to an aluminum hood may be the culprit... To save a whopping 25lbs. Body panels (especially hoods) should not be buffeting in the wind.

Very common complaint on the new trucks on other forums. If you adjust the hood stops up front it will take some of the front wiggle away, but the biggest issue, it seems, is at the rear which appears to be a combination of lift, plus the hood flexing at the hinge mounting pads, plus the flimsy hinges flexing laterally. It really bugged me at first, but I have learned to ignore it. It is pretty lame, though.

Friends,

I guess the gasser 2019 Ram 1500 have significantly different under hood airflow characteristics... I checked hood today in my wife's 1500 and no hood movement, nor have I noticed it when running 85 mph on the toll road.

Interesting.... I'll be watching this thread to see how it proceeds and ends.

Cheers, Ron

The biggest movement happens on a two lane road with 65 mph limit, and you meet a semi, coach bus, or motor coach going the opposite way. I hope to tell you, she really does the watusi, then.

I rarely complain about these kind of things on my trucks. I can confirm that when approaching a larger air moving vehicle like a semi on a two lane road the hood flat out lifts up in the back. On one of the other forums a guy has a good video of how much the hood flexes at the hinge.

The hood on my '18 moves a lot more than the one on my '05, especially in the car wash at the dryer. I can only imagine home much more the aluminum hood on the '19+ trucks will move.

I worry about the paint, as the metal is likely fine with the movement.

Sounds like two possibilities happing: either high airflow happening on both sides of hood and when large vehicle disrupts airflow on the top, causing to rise up or possibly change in airflow to the sides. I'm a member of 5thGenRams and have not seen this problem for gassers, so that leads me to believe the difference could be the airflow under the hood as a contributor.

Anyhoo, please post progress and hope y'all figure out of there is a problem.

Cheers, Ron

There were plenty of people complaining about the 1/2 tons, too. In fact, there was a TSB/RRT to address the issue with them. Some folks had dealers try this with the HDs and it didn't seem to resolve the issue. Look at a new HD, besides the much wider grill opening, where the hood meets the grille there is a gap for air to push into. It almost seems like if the badges on the side of the hood were air extractors it might equalize, but that is a WAG at best.

Is the hood shaped differently between the gas and diesel versions?? I'm not right up on the later trucks....

Not sure if the hoods are the same, but seems they likely are. Mine has plenty of clearance for the different truck configurations. I know there is a solid panel on the 1500 where there would be a grill for the intercooler on 2500 through 5500 diesel models.
