Deuce and a Half turbodiesel

I did something yesterday

If i put a hood scoop off set on passenger side to vent on the turbo and exhaust manifold would it have a positive effect? or negative. If i did i would get a used hood to do it on keeping my stock hood. I'm visualizing something obious 3 to 4 " high and not low profile like most scoops. it would be closable from the cab , old choke type push -pull. has anyone tried it? i dont want to hear i"m crazy, thats a given, but i do want to know what effect it would have. robert

In general, you want to keep as much heat in the exhaust stream as possible so that you can take advantage of the energy to spin the turbo. If you cool the exhaust manifold and turbo, you will cool the exhaust too. This will take energy out of the exhaust and it will not be able to do as much work to put air back into the intake. Granted, you will probably not be able to measure the effect, but it will decrease power (aside from the fact that you will be increasing overall drag of the truck).

DC i think too much water in the seattle area. i dont see an effective way and protect the air filter from water. it rains here from nov. to june. thats why i was going to make it closable. thanks robert

I would guess that portion of the hood is in a low pressure area... ... . meaning air would not be pushed in like you obviously think it would

It goes against what you think, but if you look at aero maps most will be this way, and have a very high pressure area right in front (obviously) and at hood/windshield junction..... thats why the vents are there
