Competition 1/4 Mile Time STICKY

Does anyone know the regulations on this exhaust type in Texas?

I tried looking on the TX DPS page with little luck. The only clause which looked like it might apply is: reject inspection if... "The tailpipe fails to discharge exhaust from the rear or sides or top of the passenger compartment of the vehicle".

Thanks,

Jonathan

I would think that if your planning on this setup you could expect an obstruction of view ticket. I got one for having a stupid air freshener hanging off my rearview mirror- although he gave me a warning on the speeding so I gladly accepted his obstruction ticket:-laf :-laf .

I dunno maybe the mounties down in Texas are more laid back than these Jersey troopers... ...

I've read there is a memeber that has a stack through the hood that he drives on the street. I'm not sure if he's changed it or not yet. Hopefully he'll catch this post.

Josh

Thanks for the replies. The only reason I thought I might get away from the "obstruction of view" part is that the stack exits not in the center, but passenger side of hood.

:-laf :-laf Yeah, maybe if the officer is in a generous mood, but i doubt it especially with black smoke pouring out of it... . you'd surely have a couple tickets before you depart. :{

Ohio guys seem to get away with it. Possibly, because the Ohio Gestapo is so busy writing speeding tickets, they don't have time for obstrcution of view.

Pennsylvania troopers seem to have time to write you up for everything-bumper too high, tires sticking outside the fenderwell, etc.

No hand guard on bed stack. Nice fellas.

Gene,,, what are you talking about,,,, they dont like to write speeding ticket's here :-laf

I know of one guy in southeastern ohio running a hood stack seem's to be getting away with it.

and speaking of,,, brent you should have went a little bigger on the pipe :-laf

I live in UT and its the latest crase around here, I havent heard of anyone getting a ticket or warning yet, altho they are starting to get a little more strict about the smoke. I'd say run it. Its better to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.

I was thinking a hood stack might be nice with 26* of timing and 14:1 compression. Do you think I might have a little white smoke :-laf

Before I decide to go with a hood stack I am going to need proof of legality or implied legality. I would want to have proof to carry around with me so if an officer did pull me over, I would have something to show him.

thanks

Yeah I was gonna run twin 5" stacks through the hood but went with single stack. I've been running this setup for 3months or so and no problems as of yet. Looks like I gonna have to sell the hood stack setup if I expect to pull in the street class this year. That new rule sucks!!

anyone have pics? Ive got a spare hood and Im thinking of buying another hx 40 downpipe and hacking it apart to make a hood stack... . any tips/tricks? Thanks guys!

Ian

Even though some people might be getting away with it in some states... .

Just think if you were driving cross country through some of the states that you couldn't get away with it. It would be an awfully short trip.

just buy the HX40 flange from Diesel Dynamics... WAY cheaper than buying another downpipe!

Just get'cha an old raggedy slouch straw hat, stick a piece of straw in yer' teeth, spit tobac'er juice, throw a couple of bales of hay in the back, pull a plow an yer' good to go! :D

Think of the increased safety. Instead of having to crane my neck to see the smoke coming out of my old stacks, now it will be properly displayed rignt in front of me. :D

HES RIGHT!!! Not me of course, but I know a certain Forder, that his wife confirmed he had his head out the window most of the time watching his stacks. When he hooded it, it kept his eys on the road, head in the cab! :D :-laf :D
