Don't know anything about the hood struts that Summit sells, but you CAN buy the 4th gen hood struts to fit your 3rd gen truck.

The quality is oem and the price is much less then the 3rd gen struts and they fit perfectly. You can get them from an online discount Mopar parts distributor.

The struts made by StrongArm are also excellent and available from Amazon.

Here are some part#s to help out--

3rd gen hood strut Mopar #55276321AC

4th gen hood strut Mopar #55372200AA

3rd gen aftermarket StrongArm #4364

I installed a set from Rockauto last spring. They have worked just as good as the stock set did. I recently opened my hood in 15 degree temps with no problems.
They are made by Monroe and are 11 bucks each.

I've been using the USA Made struts off eBay, no issues. I have 3 sets in use on my trucks now bought from the eBay strut depot seller. Supposedly made in the US, mine are stiff and require effort to close the hood after 2 years. Strong Arm struts on eBay are a little cheaper than Amazon, buts its worth checking both when your ready to order. Amazon is cheaper sometimes if you have points built up. $29.99 shipped right now, the price has increased since I bought mine. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Qty-2-StrongArm-4364-Front-Hood-Lift-Supports-Struts-Shocks-Springs-Props-/231033968644?hash=item35cab29804:g:~IIAAOSw0e9Uwq2l&vxp=mtr

I purchased replacement struts for my previously owned '03 3500 from Geno's. Shipping was prompt, were a perfect fit, and worked better than the originals.

I know many save money with EBay and Amazon, but I just bought hood struts from O'Riellys and they have a life time replacement warrantee.

I tried to buy Strongarm struts from the Amazon based LL Auto Parts. Something went wrong with the order (it still shows as arriving next month) so I cancelled it and found another vender. No problem with that order. Installed them and now I don't have to use a broom handle anymore. Supposed to be made in USA and paid around $31.
