Broad question... . Suggest that you search the archives. Lots of info in there on this subject... .

My 2 cents - Pre turbo is better, but much more involved than post turbo. Some guys have both. To do Pre turbo you will have to remove turbo (so as not to get metal bits from the drilling and tapping into the turbo)and reassemble. Not exactly rocket science, but involved. Post turbo: Remove the cast metal elbow post turbo, that hooks up to the exhaust pipe. Drill and tap. Don't drill on center casting line. Go a bit off center. Some guys have said you don't have to remove it, as any chips just go into the muffler... . Hmmmm.

I have post turbo. knowing that the numbers I get are cooler than pre turbo, I just revise my upper limits, considering 900* to be the upper limit. Haven't seen it go over 800* yet pulling a load in the mountains... .

Maybe someday I'll get motivated and move it to pre turbo and plug the elbow hole... . Who knows!

What other gauges did you get? What type of mount?

Richard

Ya don't have to remove the turbo to drill and tap the exhaust manifold to put the EGT sensor in pre-turbo. Most chips will stay external to the manifold, any that do fall inside the manifold can be removed with a magnet if you so desire, grease the tap to keep most chips on the tap. If any chips are left inside they will blow through the turbo just fine. Did it myself,, not a problem. Pre turbo is the best place for the sensor.

I also used a heavy duty vacumm along with lots of grease on the drill bit and tap. No problems noted after about 1500 miles. Put the probe before the turbo, as just about everyone will tell you. They are several site taht will lead you though this. All you have do is follow their advice.
