I just finished flipping through the whole magazine and can't find the article you're talking about.

I have the "Tailgate EasyLift" by Hoppy Mfg. Tailgate Easy Lift

This is something the pickup should've come with, IMO. Opening and closing the tailgate is now a breeze with one hand. Heck, my 8-year old grandson can do either in a heartbeat. Before this mod, it was all he could to to close it.

Check out the installation video on the above site. Yes, it really is that easy.

I have the Tailgate Easy Lift too. It's slicker than a teflon banana peel. it seems much less kluged-together than the cable spring systems or the gas strut contraptions. And It might also add security against tailgate theft; it complicates the removal of the tailgate (which might be a detriment if you have need to frequent removals) a bit.

The installation was a two person job for me, to avoid scratching the paint.

But I love mine.

After reading about the Easylift in Trailer Life I bought one for $24. 88 delivered from Amazon. It might be the best thing I've added to my truck. It works as advertised! The only drawback would be for those who remove their tailgate often. It makes it a two person job.

I love mine! It works as advertised, helps with both up and down movements, is very discrete and there are no cables, cylinders or springs to get in the way of anything.

It's a great product until you want to take the tail gate off. Then you need to have two people to put it back on. Makes opening and closing the tail gate easier.

How often do you remove your tailgate? I almost never take mine off. I installed the Hoppy EasyLift just last week and haven't used it much yet. I will say though that it is sooo much easier to open and close, especially with the fiver hooked up. It's a snap to close the gate standing to the side. Because it's now so light, it bounces when you drive with it open. In my mind, that's a negative since it ultimately will damage the gate that way. Just have to close it when you drive.
