So, here's the deal:

when my truck is empty (which it is 98% of the time) and I'm driving at about 50MPH and hit the brakes, the rear end starts hopping - I stop fine and I believe every thing is working OK - this is not coming from warped front rotors or loose wheel bearings - anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of the shakes - other than carrying around an extra 500 lbs.

Darn!! I have a very similar problem. I posted it a week or so back. Mine happens between 60 and 70Kph both going up through and back down through that range. I've checked tires, brakes, universals, steady bearing all to no avail unless I'm missing something. If you find a fix please let me know, I'm getting frustrated to say the least.

had kind of the same problem which was worse when it was wet. The brakes were locking up and the hoppin was the anti-lock shuttering. I checked everything and couldn't find anything wrong. Finally as a last resort, I replaced the lining and upgraded to the 3" lining, turned the drums and WALLA problem solved. The old lining looked fine, but for whatever reason, the lining was grabbing.

Ditto here on the brakes locking up when they get a little damp. A little shakey on a mild slowdown also. I had a small axle seal leak and I thing my drums are AFU. Time for a brake job I guess.

Money... . that should fix it. .
