I'm in the process of installing my Grovers, and am looking for a place to tap into for the solenoid. My plan was to tap the hot side of one of the factory horn connectors. However, when I put my meter on the connector I pulled, both sides look like they're tied to ground, even after I pulled the horn relay out of the PDM.

Has anybody used one of the factory horn wires (at the horns) to activate an air horn solenoid on a 2001. 5 ? If so, which wire did you use?

Thanks,
-Don

Looks like I may need to pull BOTH connectors? Heard from "Thomas" that I am probably going through a coil on the other horn, so it looks like a short to ground.

Candidate wire for solenoid control is green with red tracer?

In my experience the horn has juice always running to it. When you hit horn button should complete ground system for horn.
But it could be turned around. I have 96 service manual but it's in the truck which is at work. I don't think they would change system around between years. I 'll go get it tomorrow and look.

Don,
Dodge uses switches that connect to ground rather than +12vdc. I found the same thing in the headlight circuit when trying to hook up a relay for my driving lights. The solution is easy => Hook one side of the pull-in circuit on the relay to a always hot +12vdc wire. Hook the other side of the pull-in relay circuit to the same wire that goes to ground when you push the horn button. Now you have the "sensing" side of the relay working. You should be able to hear the relay activate (click) when you push the horn button (if you disconnect the stock horns first #ad
). Now you can wire up the aftermarket horns any way you want. Usually this means using the relay to supply +12vdc. You can do the same thing on your headlights to make your own brightbox. HTH...
