Anyone had trouble with these? Replaced it 2 years ago (12 month 12,000 mile warantee) and now it's gone again. Is there a standard thermal/hydraullic clutch that can be used instead of these magneto/electirc clutches?

Bruce,

You don't list the year of your truck. But, tell me, whoever installed your clutch, did they install the entire harness? If not, that most likely is your problem. When the fan switches off after cycling on, there is an electrical spike that shoots down the wires. The harness is designed to eliminate that spike before it gets to the electro-magnet portion of the fan. If the spike gets to the electro-magnet it will burn it out. Only took two cycles before mine was toast. ( I was in Oklahoma City in the middle of summer on the freeway in construction when I fried it. )

As far as a thermo controlled or an air actuated fan, not unless someone other than Horton makes them. I've even heard that Horton no longer makes the clutch fan for our engines. Bummer. Hope this info helps.

Truck is '98, 12v, 2500, FWD, 5 speed man.

Don't know if they replaced the whole harness. But, I will check it out. Thanks for the input.

If you are referring to my post, I meant I am running the new Flexlite Electric Fans for Dodge Cummins.

well actually i am interested in the horton clucth. however i am curious as to how you like those fans ive looked at them and am thinking about it. what kind of power levels do you run and how well are they cooling? do they work as advertised?

I really like the kit, quality made. My local Lee's Auto Parts gave me a great deal. What I did not like about the Horton was the power it took when it engaged at high speed. My truck has a lot of ad ons and the fans are really quite. A/C is cooler also now as they come on when clutch engages. They go on for thirty seconds after shut down to prevent boiling in radiator. I am going to install two switches (connections are there) one will turn fans on manually, the other to stay off for winter,

My truck runs cool and in the eight years it's been on the motor it has only run a dozen or so times unless the a/c is on. It comes on when the water temp is about 210. It does take alot of hp to run it but it doesn't run 99% of the time. Works great the only thing I didn't like was the price about $800. As for a winter switch, it never runs in the winter.
