Who sells Horton Fans, what do they cost and what has been your experience with them? Hard to install? Any links would be appreciated. Thanks, Rick

rick, I just posted about Horton 10 seconds ago in 24 valve. Horton's site is down. Here's install http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/Horton_fan_clutch.htm The Dodge dealer used to sell Hortons but I'm not sure they still do. Try this, you will get much info and dealers. They run about $800, which seems expendsive, would probably take 500k miles to pay for itself but may be the only way to go for certain situations. Horton sold it's one millionth fan to UPS last month, an outfit well known for excellent maintenance, longevity and cost effectiveness on it's trucks. That's saying a lot. Hortons are stock on most big rigs.

I have had mine on over 100,000 miles now. It may not be cost effective but I would not be without it. Where I live,Nevada's high desert,it is never needed in the winter unless I am climbing some long hill. Nice and quiet without it engaged. In the summer when I am stuck in Las Vegas traffic and the ambient temperature is 105*+,I run it all the time. That way my temperature never goes above 190*. I had Carson City Dodge install it and it has been a worthwhile addition.

About 50,000 mi on mine Like it fine. Had some minor difficulties with the install.

"Horton" were tough to deal with over the phone. I think they don't really like the little guys very much.

I never hear it engage unless towing up 6% or more grade for more than 10 minutes in temps of 85F or over. Gives quite a jerk when it engages.

Horton Fan

Rick,

I bought my Horton fan kit discounted from Dodge when they discontinued them. I spoke with Tim at Blue Chip Diesel while attending the 2001 Diesel Thunder in Muncie. Tim rewrote the terrible installation manual for Horton and I believe he told me that he was the U. S. distributor for the kits. I'd contact Tim or Chip at Blue Chip Diesel because most of the Horton fans that I've seen advertised elsewhere, are sold by separate componet kits. HTH's and let us know what you find. :) :) Larry

Well I rechecked the group page and like illflem said, they aren't there now. I can only assume that deal ran out. You could try sending an email to Carl about it and see if it could still be had.

Can anyone point me to any tips on installing a Horton. I ordered mine from Tim at Blue Chip but he said they didn't have any special directions written (It must have been someone else because he didn't know anything about that). It arrived yesterday and I want to do the install tomorrow. By the way, Tim said he didn't necessarily recommend the Horton to his customers. Not because it doesn't work just that it's expensive etc. He said the only customers that actually buy it from him are ones that have already made up their mind when they call. Anyway, I still decided to give it a try. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave.

You don't have to change valve springs. It has an electric clutch, it's not an electric fan. I installed one in a truck but it has been quite awhile. Do remember that the cowling must be removed, it won't fit though the space like the stock fan does. Make sure the wiring is well secured. The one I installed did have a wiring diagram with it, that was half the battle.
