Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) HO's in '02

Was there one standard motor in '02 or was there a High Output version? If so how can you tell the difference?

manual trans was 245HP Auto Trans 235HP

Close. SO engine got automatic or 5 speed manual. HO got 6 speed only.

There is a way to plug the vin to check build sheet somewhere and also a tag on the motor tells you output.

I'm checking on an e-bay find for a friend. It's an auto so I guess that's a good sign for a 235 HP? Can the 235 HP motors be built up the same as the 245?

They can be "built up" to 500HP+ easily with enough $$$$$$'s!

Some contend the SO injection pumps are better... Both can be built up as much as the pocketbook will allow. I think it really comes to wanting an auto or manual, the HO and SO engine are not that far apart in comparison with one another.

i have an 02 HO, the six speed was my only option if i wanted the HO motor. one advantage is you get a granny gear and a bigger clutch mine held my 275's and the comp tapped but kicked the bucket a few days after the DD2's fell in.
