Hot Egt! Need Help!

Hopefully you guys can help me out with this problem.

After I updated my smarty, I noticed some higher EGT's. Recently, I noticed some extremely high EGT's. High as in 600 degrees at idle and 900 at 35 MPH. At first I thought the smarty might have been the problem since the problem started when I updated. I went back to stock to test my theory and I've still got the same high EGT's. Oh, I've got good boost too. No leaks that I'm aware of. I'm at about 10lbs at 35 MPH and I'm peaking at 30 under WOT.



What could possibly be the problem?

check your oil ,may be injector(s)!

Oil is fine, no raise in oil level. Doesn't smell like diesel either. I just had an oil sample come back and their was no fuel in the oil. The truck runs just like it always did. No excess smoke or lack of power. Now I'm thinking it might be my gauge or the probe that has gone bad.

You can check the accuracy of the gauge by taking a milivolt reading on the pyro lead wires. If you can get me a milivolt reading I can convert that into a temperature reading as to what your gauge should be reading.

I've got a tester. Do I need to get the truck up to idle temp or should I read it cold?



I'll read it cold first, then read it at idle. Thanks for you help. I'll be getting back to you with some readings.

If you get it up to normal running temperature that would probably be a little more accurate. Just note the pyro reading when you are doing it and the milivolts and it has to be MILIvolts I can tell you how close they are.

350 Degrees 3. 3 MV



Whats really strange is when it's cold and I first start it, the needle jumps up to 600 degrees but when it's warmed up it doesn't seem to be that far off. But for as long I was idling, I should be about 100 degrees cooler than that. Let me know.

350 Degrees 3. 3 MV

3. 6mv should read 190-200deg according to the chart that I have here.

3. 3 is going to be about 160deg.

does the isspro gauge you have for pyro have that little remote mount amplifier box into which the pyrometer leads plug into? i have heard of a few of them going bad. . i don't know if isspro still uses that style anymore though???

I got in touch with the dudes at diesel manor and explained to them what was happening. They are sure it's the amplifier box that went bad. He explained that the probes almost never go bad. So, with that being said, they are sending me a new amplifier box free of charge. Excellent customer service with those guys!

The only problem I've had with a probe is a neighbors cat put it's fat foot on the pigtail and shorted it out. A couple of mouse traps fixed the cat's desire to climb into the engine and a new probe fixed the rest.

I hope they are sending you a gauge too, the gauge and amplifier box are matched and need to be kept in a set.
