I have been on the phone with Ben Winters at Transfer Flow, and he said they finally had a prototype of the 60 Gallon replacement fuel tank (just like the Phurd one) for the Dodge OEM plastic one! He said today they got a Dodge truck locally there in Chico CA and will be installing it and conducting tests for the final product.

He anticipates it should be available hopefully next month. #ad

I want the 60 gal + the 40 gal behind the axle and put the spare in the bed. 100 gal would be convenient. #ad

I looked hard at Aero Tank in Corona and haven't ruled them out, but they use 16 gauge steel and add a skid plate for +$, whereas Trans Flo is 14 gauge and drop tested and Ben swears that it won't need a skid plate. Hmmm.

And Aero's behind the axle tank's filler comes out in the rear wheel well! Anyone have experience with that? Sounds like a dirty spot to put it!

So all of you that are interested in the Transfer Flow metal 60 Gal replacement tank, give them a call at 800 442 0056 and express your interest!

If they hear enough interest from Dodge boys, we'll get it sooner maybe!

Hemi,

I talked with him three times on just that subject!

Said he was aware of the Problem and I told him it would be yuck if the same sending unit were used on a tank almost twice as big. Hell, we'd be reading empty with 20 gallons or more left in there !!

Proof's in the puddin' so we'll have to wait and see, but at least it's comming. #ad

Let us know how it goes. i have been using the trip odometer for about a year now since my guage has completely quit. this is the 2nd gauge and i am not wasting my time futzin with another defective sending unit unless it was going to be the last time. from my checking the replacement tanks, they use the same sending unit. I need to check this out.

Davison,
Is the T/F only for the QC or also for the regular cab? Thanks.

MichaelT, there is no way they could have a 60 gal. replacement tank for the RC Rams without having the tank hanging WAY down below the frame.

Oh Yeaaa. 60 gal AND 40 gal??
IMHO I cant see them using anything other than the OEM sender... unfortunatly.
Anybody got a price, or ballpark on this? Got to start selling blood now I guess. #ad

BadAndy - You didn't put up a profile... What year and type of unit do you have? Did you get the replacement sending unit covered under warranty?

I think they all use the OEM sending unit, but talked with TF and *****ed about the dodge's unit. I mean what do they use for the 2nd tank, the 40 gal aux? A dodge unit or something else?

Michael: Will it fit a regular cab? I don't know! Good question. Give them a call and ask. Makes me wonder about long bed and short bed too! Is it all the same underneath?

John: I have to confess, Ben talked about a bit smaller 56 or 58 gallon tank, and it is 'in development', but Aero Tank DOES have a 60 gallon, and I've been told it DOES hang below the frame. A guy posted that he had one and had to be keep a watchful eye when it went up on a lift so they didn't dent it!

Ben did say that they prototype they were going to fit to the Dodge was going to be modified to utilize every inch of available space before settling on the final dimensions.

Patriot: Blood Bank? Don't forget Sperm Bank and maybe a Paper Route... . but with rising cost of fuel hows a guy to get ahead? #ad

I had the 60-gallon Aero tank on my old truck. Yep, it used the stock Dodge fuel sender. I got about 200 miles with the gauge at full, 200 with it on empty, and 500 or so in the middle.

It hung about 1" below the frame rails and cleared the driveshaft on the inside by about 1/4". I had no problems with it at all.

1/4"? #ad
Are you sure? #ad
That seems awefully close given that everything is subject to movement when the frame is torqued in an off camber situation... . or under full throttle acceleration.

I didn't measure it exactly but it's very, very close. But as far as I know the drive shaft never hit the tank.

It is a 2 piece shaft so not much lateral shift is possible and the rear axle doesn't seem to move around much either.

But then again I got the tank after I decided my 4x4 extended cab 3500 just didn't belong off-road. 3500s just don't fit on jeep trails--them darn rocks hiding in the bushes off the trail are hard on the outside tires--didn't think it was possible to rip the sidewall off a BFG MT--thought I had left the rear axle behind ;> )
