You can bar the engine over from the alt. pulley. Get a mirror to see the pump key and make sure it is at 12:00 position! Otherwise it falls into the timing case and the job will get several hours longer. Take the fuel tubes off in 2 sets of 3 so you don't have to take each individual tube and retainer off.

Other than that, its pretty easy and straight forward. Take your time.

I cut a craftsman combo wrench down to 5 and 3/8s inch from the open end this worked great on the #6 injector line. You will love the pump ... George

thank you for your info all of the suggestions are going to be of great help. I hope that the every thing goes like it should so I can race on my way. :)

Pull all the fuel lines between the pump and injectors to give you more room. Make sure to align the key and the slot, the pump should easily slide into it's home position without force.

the pump is here tomorrow morning we start the disassembly. cross your fingers for good like right!!! well I will keep you posted on our success

Dieseldude, let us know how the performance/drivability side of the new pump is compared to stock,i'm eyeing that pump as well when mine goes in the toilet, goodluck with the install. DW

Like DWeiller said. @ 149k, with the DTT trans just done and bombs soon to follow I'm planning on the next thing to go being either the rear or the VP$$. More than likely it will be the VP$$. Please, keep us informed.

Seems like the pump is stuck on the taper fit. Tapped the end with a lead hammer, no go, then with a 4 lb hammer, still stuck. All nuts are off and fuel lines are out. And, yes the shaft nut is off, so is there something we are forgetting or should we just have a beer and keep trying? :-laf

Make sure and pull the two bolts connecting a bracket between the pump and the block, then you can use your t-puller to push the pump out of the gear if necessary.

Got the pump out after A LOT of pressure with the T-puller. there is a foam/plastic heat sheild behind the pump. It is all broken up and falling apart. do we need this???

Should we fix it or just trash it?

I would fix it and put it back. It is the heat and noise shield from the motor.

I am looking at getting one to so let us know was it worth it in performance? Can you the the diff?

The install is done!!!!Oo. the performance is sweeeet, I don't know why I waited so long to swap it out. the install was not bad it only took a 12-pack and about 8 hours. now we can do it in less now that we know what all is involved. thank you for all of your help and support it makes the install go better knowing you have good info.
I will keep you updated on the fuel mileage and drivability threw out the week!
