What is your favorite hot sauce?

My wife is out of town for a week and Mr. Mom made chicken last night. I found some Trappey's Louisiana Original Recipe Hot Sauce in the pantry. Love that stuff...

Tapatio Hot Sauce - doesn't have that vinegar taste/smell that Tabasco has.

I preferred Chalula Hot Sauce until I tried the Tapatio. Both are 100% better than Tabasco - unless of course you like vinegar.

Schlotzsky's

Its not as hot as Tobasco or Trappeys, but the flavor beats them both.

FWIW, I love 'em all, but Schlotzsky's is the best in my book.

Bob

Schlotzsky's huh, I didn't know they had hot sauce and the two we had here closed up! I liked the food too...

There's a restaurant here named Champps, they have a really good Buffalo wing sauce, really good one too. And they are tight lipped about what it is. I had a relative working there for a lengthy period and he couldn't even get the secret!

I prefer the hot sauce that I make myself. It's too thick to come out of a typical hot sauce bottle so I put it in small fruit jars with mason type lids. No batch is exactly the same as I have no written recipe but, Among the ingredients I use are tomato, apples, sea salt, balsamic vinegar, honey, garlic, cumin, allspice, Habanero, jalapeno, chile, and cayenne peppers. It is an all day process and I taste as I go until I have something tasty. Beware, my process requires lots of beer in between tastes.

So far I have put it on (or in) burgers, chicken, black beans, and chilli. It has the equivalent of 2 habs per 4 oz final product so it is not for the faint of heart but it is nowhere near the hottest around. But it adds great flavor.

When using it on grilled chicken you can also break out your favorite bbq sauce and add a teaspoon of my sauce to spice it up.

My two favorite hot sauces are Da' Bomb (The final answer) and The Source. The Source is the hottest thing I have ever tasted. The first time I tried it I dipped the end of a toothpick in it and holy crap, that stuff burned my mouth for an hour and a half! At 7. 1 million scoville units it makes tabasco sauce seem like water. Good Stuff!!!

I won't touch the hot sauce my one sister makes. WAY to hot for me. She has to wear gloves to make it, and don't dare have an open cut.

Hula Girl...

Food Channel a couple of years ago had a Hot sauce challange. They tested 803 different sauces. Hula Girl came in #1.

I ordered a bottle after I saw the show. It's good stuff.

"... Out of 803 competitors in Texas, Hula Girl Chipotle-Habanero Hot Sauce was chosen the Best Overall Winner and First Place Winner in the Hot Sauce Category of 2004. "

I like hot sauce that is flavorful but edible, a nice zip, a tingling sensation on the scalp, maybe a bit of sweat.

I can buy paint remover and concrete etching acid, I don't like my hot sauce to be similar to either...

Garlic Tabasco rules, after that the red Tabasco. I also like Franks (both the orig and hot versions). I have a bottle of Daves Insanity Sauce, but its more of a gamble to use, anything more than a drop makes a pot of chilli un eatable.

Garlic tobasco huh? I want to try that! That Dave's Insanity is nothing more than a prickish gag, I witnessed a near heart attack prank once with that crap...

i don't know if it was the same sauce, but a few years back at the pub, i got some hot wings that the bartender spiked a few of with some insanely hot stuff... he, and the other staff there had a great laugh [along with most of the other people in the pub] and i got me a free order of wings and another pitcher free. . yeah it was worth the pain/embarassment

Cholula... hands down. It's great on all kinds of stuff. Although the Chipotle Tabasco isn't too bad. Different kind of spiciness.
