Cant figure this one out, I have one tire that runs hotter then the rest. If I had to guess I would say 10 to 15 degrees hotter (never hotter then the back tires on my truck) The bearings have been checked and repacked, tires are Michlens class E, all tires are running the same psi and no the brakes are not dragging. Any ideas???

Check and jot down all of your tire temps with an infrared gun. I usually don't see more than a 3 degree F differential on the same axle. If you aren't carrying a substantially heavier load on this hot tire, I would check wheel alignment. Have you hit any big potholes or curbs?

Good luck,

Mel

You could have one axle end bent slightly causing a minor toe-in or toe-out condition. That would cause that tire to scuff and generate heat. Or that tire could be carrying a little more weight than the other three. I consider Michelins almost bullet proof and almost trouble free but if that tire is old or has been damaged it could possibly have a cord separation allowing some internal movement between the carcass, steel cords, and tread which would generate heat.

You might try rotating the tires to determine if the hot tire moved or remains in the same position.

The tires are two years old; Goodyear bought them for me :D I have been thinking about the alignment myself. This just started since the new truck; the 5er is running level and the other side tires seem to run normal. The funny thing is if I am on curvy road going 55 mph or under temps are fine. Just seems to do it at freeway speed. I am going to rotate the tires and see if the heat is still there

Was the hot tire on the axle end with the broken spring or the one that was being forced to carry the weight the broken spring was not carrying?
