As you know my TPS is shot and my O/D has never worked since I got the truck. I was told the solenoid was unplugged inside the transmission. Well it is plugged in, but the TPS is shot. So my question is. What 2 wires are the ones that control the O/D on the transmission. I found a plug on the drivers side top of the trans that is vertical straight up and down. It has a small ornage wire and a larger blue wire. I tapped into the blue wire and when I hooked it directly to the battery for a test everything on the dash came on. All the gauge lights, the intake heater cycled, and the WTS lights came on. So then I tired the orange wire and test drove it and nothing changed. Did I find the right wire, or is the solenoid really bad? Can someone shed some light onto if I have found the right plug or the right wires. Thanks, Bill

It sound like you have the right wires, I just ran out and checked on my '93 transmission and the od plug is positioned vertically about half way up the drivers side of the transmission. The wire colors on mine were green and blue w/ orange strip. I have the green wire as hot and the blue stripped grounded to the frame. What you may need to do is bypass the whole system and run one hot and the other to a solid ground. However maybe somebody with a '92 truck manual could help you more.

Remember that by hooking directly to the battery without a switch you will still have a 3 speed... it will just be higher geared.

Good luck,

518 overdrive

Hey guys, are you telling me that I can manually switch in and out of overdrive by grounding the blue with or. stripe and swiching power to the green wire? Ross

After looking at the '93 manual, I think you need to leave the connection plugged in. This will feed 12v on the dark blue wire. Cut the other lead ( it shows R/LG -red/light green tracer?-in the '93 manual) and run it to a switch on the dash. Run the other side of the switch to ground. I would put a lighted switch in as you don't want to leave od engaged at the wrong time.

I couldn't wait till the morning. So I went out in the barn tonight and hooked everything up. Low and behold the SOG works. First time since I have owned the truck I have had O/D. I just had to drive 10 miles out my way and go get on the Interstate. I hit 85 before I got out of it. Mani it is nice to be able to pass somebody for a change. I am so happy now you don't even understand. Thanks, Bill

I don't know how the od works on the automatic but my past experience was with an electric unit on a manual Jaguar. The previous owner had bypassed the reverse lockout and I accidentally left od engaged in reverse. As it had an freewheel setup, it destroyed it and I no longer had od.

Now that you found out how much od adds to the pleasure of driving your vehicle, maybe you should consider fixing the TPS.

Yeah, I would love to consider it. But there is thing that's called money. As soon as I get the extra $200 I will replace it. Does anyone have a extra one for sale? Thanks, Bill

Yep, passing things is a great feeling isn't it? My conversion easily payed for it self just on the short stretch between Alaska and New Mexico this summer. Not to mention the ability to pass the mass quantitys of motorhomes here in the summer.

Have fun with it.
