I havent kept up with the VP's lately, but I have a friend who's is just about shot. He got the notorious 1693 and 216 codes so I told him he better start looking to buy one but he doesnt know what to buy so i told him i would do some checking. Do you think the HR pump is worth the money? Is it able to be drivin daily and will it last as long as a standard vp? The truck has a drag comp and is running a FASS, and i'm sure will put injectors in it eventually. Any Info. welcome. Thanks

Scuttlebutt I hear is that a OEM vp will flow as much or more as HR when the injectors get big enough. I don't know if that's the limiting factor or no. I hope to go P when my VP craps. :p

good question, i am in the same boat, i dont know if my vp will be going out soon, but i like to be prepared. what are the benefits of having a hr44? is having a standard 44 going to cut it? i will be going with 100hp injectors, a catcher and the current tst3 box. i have a holley blue ready to install. what are the benefits/drawbacks of a HR44 as compared to a standard 44?

The way I take it, a Hot Rod pump will be more noticable to a HO truck, as the stock HO pump moves less fuel then a stock SO pump.

I have heard some stories saying a HR pump will add 60HP, others say it doesn't add anything.

Will the HR VP alow the HO trucks to use the larger ingectors, (For instance mach 6 or mach 7 injectors), and actually see the horsepowre they paid for on the dyno?

I have never run an HR pump, but i'm friends with two different people that are running them.

My opinion from seeing their dyno numbers, 1/4 runs , etc. is that a HR pump and injectors can make some serious hp without a box. Quite a bit more then a Standard VP44 running the same injectors. Now, add a fueling box and the increases are very small if your running the HR pump. However the fueling box will add a lot to a standard VP with injectors.

In my opinion, from the things i've seen, it is possible to make bigger numbers with a fueling box, injectors and standard VP than it is with any combination using a HR pump. But if you want good power without using a fueling box the HR pumps with injectors seem pretty cool.

Just my opinion. Your results may differ.

c-hawk,

I seem to agree. When i had my 98 24v, my brother had a HR pump for his 01 HO, that he let me run. I think i had stock injectors and a box and that thing fueled like crazy, i saw a big difference, but i think your right about when you add it all up with big inj etc... you really dont see much more of a gain. What is the HR pump about an extra $600 or so. It probably isnt worth it then if a truck is gonna get injectors? Like you said thought thats just my opinion also. My buddy who is needing one has an HO truck so i think what i will tell him is to just find an SO pump if that will work on an HO truck. thanks for the input from everyone.

I know from other posts that the HO pump on a SO engine does not work.

However the idea of a SO pump on a HO engine is interesting. Is anyone running a SO pump on a HO engine?
