St. Louis Area Gathering for June

Albuquerque/Santa Fe NM get together?

This is a copy of the e-mail Brad Webster sent to me today. It gives all the info of the event. I know there will be at least 3 Cummins powered rigs there. Mine included. Unfortunately, unless something good comes up between now and then, we won't be able to get any torque readings for our rigs. Torque numbers require a RPM pickup for our truck. TnT does not have this peice of equipment. You can use a formula and get an approximate torque number.

As mentioned in the e-mail, duallies will have to remove the rear tires. This dyno is in-ground so there is no length restrictions. If you plan on attending, just let me know and I'll forward the info on to Brad.

HAPS (Houston Area Power Strokes.com) invites LSTDR

to a Dyno Day.

HAPS has made arrangements with TnT Motorsport to

rent their dyno.

The date is set for Saturday June 15th. We hope to

get started around 8am. Remember we will only be able to run 3-4 trucks/cars

per hour, so this event will last all day. So it you have morning plans you

will still be able to make an afternoon pull or make a morning pull and get

home before it gets to late.

Typically at a HAPS event, we will be BBQing

something. So there will be food to eat, but do bring your own drinks and

chips.

Help: We will have to work as a group to help tie

down each truck/car. TnT's staff will operate the dyno, but we, as a group

will be involved with setting up each truck/car. The duellys will have to

remove the outside tire to fit the Dyno. There is a lip on the outside of

the drum and TnT has asked us to remove the tire. We will have provisions

set up to do this. So everyone needs to plan on working a little while to

make everything operate smoothly.

When: Saturday, June 15th, from 8 am till ?

Cost: $50 for 3 pulls. There will be a few minutes

between pulls to change a chip, NO2 setting, etc. But we will need to stay

on or near a schedule to get everyone in.

Location: TnT Motorsports at 1608 West 22nd.

(713-880-0279)

Directions: Exit Loop 610 at the Ella exit. Turn

south or east (toward downtown) and go 4-5 blocks to 22nd street. Turn left

on 22nd and TnT is located about a ½ block on the right.

I would like to go to this, but we gotta have a talk with the dyno operator. He was telling the guys on the Ford site that we had to remove two of our rear wheels if we have a dually.

Don~

I believe the concern is with the metal edge that runs along the edge of the drum. I'm not sure if any damage would occur if a tire slipped off , but I guess it's better safe than sorry. The guy's just trying to protect himself from liability.

We'll have plenty of help with the tires as well as floor jacks and impact wrenches.

We had to do this at another dyno shop in Houston as well.

Curtis,

I hate to remove my Alcoa wheels and do it the least number of times I can. It is a major pain to get them back on perfect. The wheels are drilled with just a little larger than the stud hole in them. When mounting them back on the perfect center has to be found to keep the rear end from shaking.

I run on a dynojet up here in Dallas all the time and never have probelms. Heck we ran a bunch of duel rear wheel trucks up here and never had a hitch. 100's of them. You just have to position the truck just right to make it work. I just wish we could talk him into not doing the wheel removal.

Don M,

I dynoed at a mustang performance shop in Houston that had a really tall outter lip. One of my buddies had some 33 X 12. 50's and we had to use our spares to put on his rear because they would have hit. The rollers seemed more narrow than the one at speedworks as well.

I don't know the purpose of that outter lip. It's probably there to minimize dirt from falling down onto the bearings 'n stuff. Sure causes problems for those that have wide tires or duallies though.

Maybe one of us could bring a grinder and grind that baby down when the owner leaves for lunch. :)

When I get my own dyno, :) it won't have the outter lip.

-Chris

what we generally do is put two wheeels on one of the rollers completely and the other side has one wheel on the rollers and one hanging off. The plate that you are talking about just goes inside the two rear tires or between them.

Don~

Can anyone figure out a way to get the dyno operator/owner to forget about the removing the rear wheeels part? I really dont wanna do this.

Don~

Dang It (so I don't get edited). I won't be around on the 15th, but I would not want to remove my training wheels either. I ran in Dallas with all wheels on, once I aired 'em all up. :D

Well I won't dyno, but I'll show just to hang out. :D

I think the thing is that the rollers have a "lip" on them where you really can not fit the other tire.

Don, what does it matter, it's not "THE" Vegas dyno? :p ;) :D

As long as it is a dynojet it makes little difference where it is located.

The lip is nothing to worry about if we put the truck on the rollers where I mentioned earlier.

Don~

Looks like I can make it after all

My business trip has been canceled that week. I'll try to come by and BS with everyone, but I don't want to pull the training wheels. I'll wait until the next Dallas Dyno day.

Hey Don,

We need to have another dyno days in Dallas. I've got a PE comp which I "need" to install. Just need to figure out a way to get it installed and have my finacee not notice it... .
