Anything going on in the Jan-early Mar. time frame?

Time for another DFW meeting

MDW,

I can't make no promises, but I am going to try and make it. I've got to work all day Saturday and I've got some toys to install on the ole pick-up. This will take several hours Sunday so depending on what time I get started I might make it.

Elmer

P. S.

I'm looking forward to seeing You run.

Right now, all I have is Snow Performances Water-Methanol injection system. I'm still waiting on my maxflow fuel lines to get in (hopefully today).

My last post was misleading. I meant,"All that I have,to install, right now is the Snow Performance package. It isn't installed yet but I did get the pump mounted on the frame under the water reservoir. The rest will have to wait until Sunday. I have a long day at work tomorrow.

Thanks MDW, If I need any help I will call.

And Thanks Jim, also, for the advice already received.

Well I made it to the track.

1st run was 14. 5? 2. 35 60FT at 96mph on diesel only and street tires.

2nd run was 13. 5? something at 102mph, 2. 09 60ft spinning the slicks, with the water injection.

3rd run never happened, I was making boost on the line and SNAP, it never left the line. Looks like transmission time :(

Its getting very hard to keep my chin up as I have been working very hard on this thing and now another problem :(

So sorry to hear of the bad luck. I was at the track for a short while yesterday. I went to pick up some methanol so I stayed and watched for about 45 minutes or an hour. I looked for your truck when I was leaving, but I didn't see it.

I got my boost cooler installed yesterday but I made a rookie mistake. When I went to add water/Methanol to the reservoir it leaked like a waterfall. I never checked the seal before I reinstalled the tank. From Looking from the bottom it looks like it could be the factory connection leaking, I won't know for sure till I can pull the tank back out.

So Do You think You broke a shaft? If so which one? Are any of them billet?

Have a good day,

Mike, I'd like to know which shaft broke, if you were building boost it should have been the output, inputs usually break from locked shifts. Dang shame your not close, outputs are that hard to change.

epowell1: So Do You think You broke a shaft? If so which one? Are any of them billet?

Nope, no billet. When Bill K. built this trans he didnt have billet parts available yet.

Jim Fulmer: Dang shame your not close, outputs are that hard to change.

Outputs are hard to change or NOT hard to change??

Not sure what shaft broke, when I tried to put the trans in park with the truck running it made a bad grinding noise so I turned the truck off then put it in park after a few seconds. Also I noticed when we were towing it the speedometer was working which leads me to believe the output is intact.

Jim: As far as you not living close I can fix that with a plane ticket :)

But we will have it out soon and I will keep ya up to date.

I do have Chris Strickland just north of me but he's not a partimer, he's trying very hard to make a living at this stuff, so I don't feel right about asking for a brother-in-law deal if you know what I mean ;)

I was wondering can you buy the billet parts or do you have to be a DTT authorized ??

Mike,

I know it's hard to keep your head up, but stick with it man! You've got all the key ingredients, just have to get it dialed in now.

YOU CAN DO IT!

As for your question, you can buy the stuff yourself I think, but I would never try to do something like the billet piston, and servo. The shaft might be a different story.

:)

Dang, Mike, if it weren't for bad luck, you'd have no luck at all! Sorry to hear it, man.

Like Andrew says, with the stuff you have on that truck, it has to have some low 12's in it. It's just a matter of dialing everything in to work together. Know anybody that will give you unlimited dyno time?? ;) :D

Give me a holler if I can do anything to help! ;)

Chris has awesome prices.

Hey Micheal. I'm ordering an SPA t-couple. I'll keep you updated... .

That's to bad about the transmission. Chris told me today about it.

Why were you spining the slicks with a 2. 09 60' ??? Need more weight transfer? You know what tires I have, and besides being 4wd, and a 4" lift, I can get a 1. 95 60' (2wd) and not feel that bad about it. Some rubber down, but not "spinning" them. I'm running 15PSI in the rears.

Keep on keeping on, it would be such a shame for you to quit now. You've got so much TIME invested in that truck. It's coming together man, just a little more.

If this helps any,,,

I spent over $4,500 on just go fast goodies, and dyno'd 150HP low, could only squeeze a 17 second 1/4 mile, and ruined the cold side of my big turbo, not to mention 300*F trans temps in the pan, a steering box that needs replaced, and so many odds and ends.

When I talked to Chris, conversation about you inspired me to run the same setup you are running for spool up problems. Apperantly you've had great luck, and I'll be following in your foot steps in that manner.

Merrick Cummings Jr

Mike, the output shaft isn't that hard the change, as long as you have a service manual and the right stuff to check the clearances... . spell check is now on.

I'd give Chris a call and bounce it off him anyway.

Jim

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone. It's getting harder and harder to look the wife in the eyes and say " I have to spend more money on the truck" :(

Thanks Rusty :)

Thanks Andrew :)

Thanks Jim :)

Thanks Merrick :)

Thanks epowell1 :)

It's the output shaft. It broke spooling up at around 20 psi.

I talked to Strickland and he is going to help me get it back on the road. :) Thanks Chris.

I'm going to take it to him today for a tear down so I will post the resulting carnage tonight.

As far as replacing the output shaft, I'm going to ask Chris if he will show me how to do it since there isn't a "better" shaft available and I may have to do to again in the future.

But I'm not going to go through this and short cut the rebuild with just the broken parts replacement, I'm going do some of the updates that are available (as much as the budget will allow).

Merrick: Yes I need 2 more T-couples:mad: , be sure and tell SPA that I'm getting very tired of replacing them .

My spool up secret is working just be careful and start small, you have more extra fuel to work with than I do.

Hey Mike, I broke my out-put shaft 2 times before I found what was wrong. It was sticking in 2nd gear after the burnout ,then as soon as I let off the brake BANG! it snaps into 1st with all that boost, and there it goes. Try going into manuel 1st to make sure it comes out of 2nd after the burnout. Hope this helps I learned the hard way too!:D

Mike... Let me know if you need help, as Houston is only a 3 hour, 18 pack trip;) ... You have helped me plenty, and I am always here to return the favor! Plus I love taking road trips anyway!
