Wow, $2495. 00 is quite a tach!! I have the Tiny Tach and the Blue Chip FMS. If you have a VP-44 the FMS is the real deal, digital tach, digital boost guage to the tenths, digital egt, low fuel pressure warning, VP-44 diagnostics, the smoothest electronic fuel enhancement/major or minor power increases from 1% to 63%, smoke control, defueling at user set egt levels, and recording features that let you recall maximum readings.

The Tiny Tach is a great value at <$70. 00

Tiny Tach

RE: Tiny Tach

I have used a Tiny Tach in my 1986 VW Golf for over 1. 5 or more

years and it has worked great the only draw back, for me is no

back light to read at night on the model I have. I used a dash mounted light but was to brite for me!this tach also reads engine

hours Also if you want to to change the Tach to A different Diesel eng. you just buy only the unit that clamps on to the Inj. line.

GWD:)

The factory tach uses the cam sensor for a pickup and processes the signal through the ECM. The Tiny Tach uses a very small transducer on the injection line for a signal. The Blue Chip FMS picks up the rpm signal through the VP44 connection. Some tachs use a signal from the alternator, others use an optical sensor on the harmonic balancer, etc. I have no idea where the Autometer will connect. Larry

Autometer's had a 5", 6000rpm tach out for quite some time. It uses a crank trigger pick-up. I believe they also make a 2 5/8" tach that reads off the alternator.

mavrick you need a pic up and 4 magnets on the balancer and then you can use any tach I will try and post pics and a wireing digram on my web sight befor next week George

My remote start needed a Tach input, so I went to the dealer and asked them what to use. They said the crank position sensor, a grey/black wire on pin 8 of the PCM.
