Just wondered if anybody has an eletric fan. For me I think that would work ok. I don't have anything heavy to tow. Its only hot for 3 months of the year. Can't see shelling out 700 big ones for a hortan that will never run cause I just don't work the engine hard enough.

I would like to add one in front of the radiator but dont think there is room behind the grill. My AC doesnt work so well at stop signs because the engine doesnt get hot enough to kick in the fan clutch. Help us out guys

TIA

John

I just got back from a 700 mile trip to Los angeles and back in 90 deg. weather in my 6BT powered IH scout. I have an electric fan. I never needed to run it even going over the Grape Vine. I turned it on in really slow trafic. I'm not sure I even needed to do that. I am not towing though.

my plans include pulling the transmission cooler off the front end and removing the fan, going with an electric one.

I dont see any reason why not. I'll replace the cooler with one twice the size and it'll have elctric fans as well. mounted under the bed between the frame rails

When I stuck my engine in it was obvious I had no room for the stock fan. I had one 16 inch fan sitting on the shelf, so it went on. The truck was hooked to a trailer with a GCVWR of 25,000 pounds. Stock it pulled great and sat on 190 even on the long hills. When I added the plate, I started having cooling problems. I have room for 2 10's. hopefully that will cure it.

If I come in off a hard pull and immediately stop, the 16 incher wont cool the motor, the temp goes from 190 to ?. Now I try to keep moving so air will cool it off without relying on the fan. If I do that it can sit and idle for 5 min and drop to 140.

Well if anyone out there installs one. Let me know what type fan. Also some type of temp switch would be nice. Let us know how you would install that too. I got a Hayden electric fan one my Honda 4wheeler with an oil cooler. That little fan really blows. I saw a Big Hayden at a fleet store. Dont remember what size though.

Buggs me!!

Mr. Deezul 1,Are you sure that your radiator is flowing enough air at idle.

Also does someone know, if it would be O. K. to use air cond coil cleaner to clean the bugs out of my radiator. Chemically speaking.

Thanks Tim

Bill, we dont have those improved dirt roads around here. i dont offroad my truck and my driveway isn't long enough to cause damage.

so to answer your question... NO

i am more concerned with the heat i am putting through the air to air charger off my transmission cooler and condensor. I cant move the condensor but the transmission cooler we can change.

i hardly if ever get stopped in traffic so the electric fan trick should be fine too. I can just turn off the air for a while if it should happen.

No I am almost positive I am not flowing enough air at idle which is why my interest in an electric fan. The engine doesnt seem to get warm enough to kick in the fan clutch so the AC sucks at idle.

I came across a Flex-A-Lite set up that that would probably work great if you don't tow heavily. It looks great but on the pricey side. I'm also thinking of removing my transmission cooler but the one on the side of the engine. I looked at several coolers for under the chassis and the ones I like the best are from Tru-Cool, Hayden and a B&M set up, stack plate coolers. They come in different sizes and some have 1/2 NPT option.

I have ran 3 electrics for some time. I did reinstall the factory fan for my trip to Calgary, because right before I lost one of the relays that control one of the outside fans. The fan that works the best is the one I put on the outside of the A/C concenser, I no longer get warm air at stop signs from my A/C:D

I have a 16" fan inside the rad, it is a metal bladed fan. A thin line 14" in front of the A/C condenser and an 8" on the left side blowing on the intercooler.

This set up really cuts my shut down time by manual activating all the fans...
