has anyone used it? was there much stuck to it? i have an ez drain tube now and am thinking about using the magnetic sot see what happens. comments? thanks. scott.

Scott, I installed the mag plug at 5 k miles and have changed oil 4 times since and have never pulled anything off of it yet, but I do like having it there so I can see for myself and not wonder..... Kevin

I made my own magnetic drain plugs with some epoxy and some $1. 35 magnets. Probably didn't need the epoxy, they stuck pretty good to the stock plugs on their own. In fact had to use pliers to pull them off to apply the glue. Never get any metal on the oil drain plug but the front and rear differential plugs are usually covered. A magnet stuck to the bottom of the AT pan keeps metal particals on the bottom out of circulation. I get my magnets here http://www.wondermagnet.com/dev/magnets.html

Scott,

You might want to check out www.superplug.plug

The magnet is very strong. So stong in fact it is impossible to thread it back into the drain hole without it attaching itself to the sides.

I have been very happy with mine. There are some particles on it when it comes times to change the oil. It is like a fine silt that I am able to wipe off the plug.

They are $25, and as far as I remember that included shipping. At one time they were giving TDR members $5 off.

I've tried two ...

I've purchased two magnetic plugs, but neither one fit. I would get the plug threaded about one and a half turns and then - it stops dead. I know I could force it, but I'm just not willing to do that. It should thread in all the way, smoothly. The stock one does.

Let me say that the folks at Geno's Garage have got to be at the top of the customer service charts! These folks are great. I returned the first one and they asked if I'd like to try a second. Now that this has proven to be the same as the first, I'm going to stick with the stock plug, at least for now.

Try <a href=http://www.superplug.com/ target=_blank>SUPER&nbsp;PLUG</a>

I like the looks of the plug as the magnet appears to be raised from the oil pan floor and in the oil flow.

MHO

On a gasoline engine I wouldn't waste the money. There isn't much iron in those engines.

Our Cummins is another story. Count the steel gears in the front case alone. Why do you think Bill says the diffys gather more. All steel gears doing the duty...

Other uses for magnets

1) A system to drastically improve fuel mileage. I stick a couple on my front bumper. When on the freeway, I accelerate into the back of a 18 wheeler. CLUNK, my truck becomes attached. I then turn off my engine. Sure beats cruise control! A light tap of the brake pedal separates me. ***THIS IS PROBABLY NOT LEGAL IN MOST COUNTRIES - DONT TRY THIS AT HOME***

2) Erasing wife's credit cards

3) Retrieving all the tools my helpers drop in the bay. I'm gonna glue them to their boots and make them walk the bay at low tide.

4) Store your magnets when not in use on top of the glass part of your electric meter for energy conservation, it really slows the wheel down.
