Over the years on this board, I have managed to become involved in several spirited rhubarbs with one or more other TDR members who chose to abandon logic and reason - and resorted to schoolyard bluster and insult as their "debate strategy"... :-{}

In each of those cases, when it became clear that the site officials were doing nothing to de-fuse the situation, and I finally began to defend myself - I was immediately and openly reprimanded by those same officials who had been totally conspicuous by their absence up to that point...

I mention all that, because it appears that while the leadership of this board can, and WILL step in quickly to censure and reprimand, they certainly are slow, if not totally absent to pass out "attaboy's" or compliments on posts or activities that are a definite credit to this board and it's members.

SO, what I suggest, is maybe some sort of monthly front page recognition of an outstanding member's post or thread on any subject that is considered a benefit to the board, and demonstrates what this board is really about!

Such recognition seems to me as every bit as pertinent as a "truck of the day" feature... ;)

Gary, I'm interested. What processed could be used to select a thread to highlight?

Robin

TDR Admin

I would assume each Moderator could select one or more posts/threads from his section for inclusion in the selection process, and a monthly Moderator vote held to pick what was felt to be the best of the crop - then a pointer supplied for that selection along perhaps with a simple, short description as to what it contains and why it was selected. Shouldn't be too hard to manage... :)

It would certainly go a long way to illustrate that board leadership is here for more than wrist-slapping and similar negative activities. I personally feel we have MANY excellent Moderators - and I'd sure welcome the opportunity to see them function in an open and complimentary mode, instead of just as traffic cops... ;)

Hmm. Thoughts.

Each forum could have a "Post of the Month" or "Moderator's Pick of the Month" club. Members (and maybe even non-members) could submit nominations. Moderators would use the nominations as a guide, especially if they haven't kept up with the best posts in their fora. The forum moderator picks the best one (or 2 or 3 in case of a tie), and all the moderators 'vote' whether the post is worthy of being a Post of the Month. This might help avoid adding too much more to moderator's time commitment.

For the overall TDR Post of the Month, Ms. Robin and Steve would choose the best of the monthly picks.

In any calendar year, if one member is selected for overall Post of the Month for any 4 months, she would receive a one year renewal. If selected for any 8 months, he would receive a one year renewal and a leather TDR jacket. If she dominated for all twelve months, she would receive the renewal, jacket and a special item from Geno's Garage.

Since I know Steve is just sitting around twiddling his thumbs :), he could adapt the 'Report This Post' link to a 'Nominate This Post' link. Duplicate nominations by members would be tossed. Nominations by moderators would be specially flagged. Perhaps only the last nomination by a member would be considered. If non-members are allowed to nominate, duplicates and 'lasts' would have to be tracked via IP address. Perhaps non-member nominations could be used to break ties. Potentially, a moderator could flag a post early on as not being worthy, thus causing its Nominate link not to appear. None of these machinations need be visible to members or guests. They need only see the nominate link and the sub-forum of all the Posts-of-the-Month.

Well, duh! Of *course* I'm starting early! I want a TDR jacket! :D :D

Actually, we have something on my to do list right along these lines that I'll be getting to soon. Very much along the lines of fest3er's idea. I came up with this about 6 weeks ago. There will be a link on each post allowing the members to suggest a post for inclusion in the magazine. Coming up to the magazine deadline we'll go through all of the posts that have been suggested (sorted by the ones with the most suggestions) and put them together for an article called "from the web". There will also be a link on the site that will bring up a list of all posts that have been in that article sorted by issue number and threads will be highlighted that were included in a magazine. This way if people read it in the magazine and wish to comment on it they can find the thread easily.

The "Post of the Month", reward could be a little star placed next to our name like we used to get in first grade.

This idea is absolutely ridicules. We're not in grade school anymore. Why do we need a little token reward for a Post well done? Don't we get enough from this site by being able to post ideas and receive worthwhile information about our Dodge/Cummins and whatever else we want?

What we're trying to do with this is help to bring some of the best information from the site into the magazine for those that don't use the site. Also, to get more of the guys that don't use the site and just read the magazine to come over to the site as well. We've tried a number of things in the past to try to grab posts from the site but they've always involved one person or a couple of people to try to cull the information out. With 800-1000 posts per day that's too big of a job for any one person to do. With this idea it'll help us to pick out the best stuff because all of the users on the site will be suggesting them and then we'll just have to weed through the suggested ones.

I like all three ideas (post of the month, print in magazine & gettting a sticker star). Dan

One of my primary points - and hopes - with my suggestion, is to encourage activity on this board along more CONSTRUCTIVE and congenial lines - and to DISCOURAGE some of the divisive and abusive stuff that too often crops up in board threads - and then requires the "official wrist-slap" referred to earlier...

For sure, *I* would far rather get a pat on the back than a kick in the pants any day - call it a "gold star", or whatever... ;)

... ... . some of the divisive and abusive stuff that too often crops up in board threads -

It is not my desire to encourage abusive response to Post, however I see no benefit to this suggestion except for a selected few to receive a pat on the back and believe me it will only be a few do gooders receiving their, "Pat on the Back". I vote NO!
