On 3rd gen trucks with the stock OEM intank fuel lift pumps/fuel level sending unit, how accurate, according to the fuel gauge, is the fuel level sending unit when the fuel level is low, say 1/4 tank or lower?

I would consider 5 to 7 gallons remaining in the tank and the gauge reading E to be pretty good. Are the newer truck fuel gauges reading this close?

Thanks, Richard

When I installed the vent kit on my truck, I ran the truck 90 miles (~5gal)after the needle was on E, and there was still about 1. 5 gal in the tank.

If I fill my truck shortly after the low fuel light comes on,it'll take 26 gallons. The most I ever put in was 32 and the gauge was below E by the width of the needle. Mike

i have ran mine low before and have mnaged to put 36 gallons in my 35 gallon tank, with it filled all the up the filler neck.

Think I read this on the GDP website, if you've not done the vent kit and/or have any suspicion of crud at bottom of tank... , always stay above 1/4 tank 'cuz the lift pump in tank bowl/baffle assy refills over its' top edge to get to lift pump. Below 1/4 tank and that same assy lifts fuel directly off bottom of tank via one way rubber flapper type valve. Check out their website for much more detailed info.

When the warning light comes on you have a solid 4 gallons. I have gone 90 miles many times once that light comes on. Just know what your MPG is and beware of headwinds and towing.
