I just found out my truck has a 120 amp alternator fuse. I have seen several here in Canada with a 120 amp fuse as well. Is there a difference from US and Canadian trucks ?
Im sure 137 is enough... however I was just wondering. I just purchaced two Optima red tops and may get a winch soon. I know I can see the gauge move when the power windows and/or mesh heater operate.
I just posted a thread on my alternator upgrades. I haven't seen much else on the subject around here before. It was a little bit of work to do,mostly all the trial fitting to make sure everything fits, and the belt is perfectly aligned. I have a list of everything you need and how it is done,so if I had to do it again,it wouldn't take long. I believe the thread is in the 2ND gen ram forum. E-mail me if you want all the details.

It's located in the PDC,just behind the drivers side battery. It is at the very end, near the engine side, and has the two large cables, one from the alt,and one going to the battery. It's always good to have a spare as it can be blown if you touch the alternator + stud when changing the oil filter.
Seems as if most of the trucks destined for Canada got the 120 amp alt fuse. Maybe it is also year dependant ?
As far as the alternator putting out less than 120,well yes. The stock alt, although rated at 136 amps, will never get near to putting that out,or the 120 amp fuse would have blown long ago. My stocker would only put out about 90 amps tops, when loaded with a load tester to measure output.
My upgraded alternator didn't take too long too blow the 120 amp fuse,or the 140 amp I replaced it with
