My family owns a gas station and I see quite a few diesel trucks in here. Yesterday there was an 04 Powerstroke F250 in here and it had the highest pitch whistle out the exhaust I've ever heard. Actually it was quiet for a while then it would get real high pitch and he said it was some kind of heater setting from the factory that spools the turbo when it's cold outside.

Anyway, I'd like to have the turbo whistle as loud as I can get it at idle or driving down the road. My current mods are BHAF and louvered style glasspack in place of the stock muffler/resonator, silencer ring removed, and Edge Comp. What can I do?

Thats called, Variable Turbo, and a 4Inch downpipe. PowerJokes have-em and I hear they are kinda faulty. Im going w/the Zilla, heard there noisy, but you must have a few mods/fuel to make them sing.

So if I were to purchase a 4" downpipe with 5" from the downpipe back I assume that would increase the whistle?

That and pull your silencer ring if you have not already done so. My passengers complaign all the time about the turbo whine and all I have is a stock HX35 with an Afe megacannon air filter (open, no box)... that is till the Aurora 2000 arrives next week! :D

run the filter inside the cab. might want to leave the window open or it might suck in the roof. I'd love to explain that to the insurance company.

I have a super stock LDP turbo from high tech & a open air box. The turbo gets so loud that it drives my fiance crazy sometimes. These Low Drive Pressure turbos are pretty loud, but I've heard the Pe--erstrokes with those units & it isn't quite that much whistle when @ idle.

I have nothing but pipe for exhaust. No silencer ring. BHAF. Stock HX-35 seems to sing ok, I think it was louder with the K&N filter and a "swiss cheese" stock airbox.

Would going to a 5" exhaust make it louder? When I bought my 4" the mech who installed it said the 5" exhaust would be too loud and that I would hate it. I now hate the fact that I listened to him. The louder the better when it comes to being a 2nd gen CTD driver.

No, thats why I mentioned, Ferd has the Variable Turbo and that why it makes that piccolo pete noise.

I had the thought of going to WIDE-OPEN 5in. but the DRONE will kill you @ about 1800-2200 RpM's try listening to that for a few hundred miles :{

The 5" exhaust would make a deeper tone in the exhaust note, but wouldn't make the turbo whistle louder. A friend of mine once told me that he bought one of those things from summit racing that you put into your air intake tube. I'm not sure what they are called, but they are suppose to increase the velocity of air going into the engine & create a swirl. He said it made his whistle louder, but I never heard the truck since he did it. He says he noticed a difference in performance too. I told him he was full of ---- & didn't pay it any attention.

don't buy any intake swirly snake oil :(

5" pipe DOES increase the amount of turbo whistle out of the pipe vs. 4"

5" straight does carry some pretty nasty resonance, but there are ways around it, and they're worth it IMHO :cool:

my II SPS turbo obviously won't have the jet turbine sound of a 6. 0 at idle, but from 1500 up... ESPECIALLY when coasting down, I'll put my turbine noise up against any 6. 0 :) WAY louder than my buddy's hx35-12 equipped truck w/ 5" straight

I have read that the Sledpuller 66 is a screamer. What makes one turbo louder than another? Do certain components on the exhaust/intake side do it?

HTB2 is the loudest turbo I've run. Cut a hole in your cowl--as per Scottie 2 air box. Run stacks.

5-inch is great, but I muffed it--would try resonator next time. It's not on the HTB2 truck.
