Is it difficult to replace the stock transmission outline with the coolant line from Mass Diesel? I would like to do this as opposed to the test ports for quicker readings, but I'm worried about the difficulty of the instal. Thanks for any help.

It's not hard at all

You can do it if you can unthread a water hose. Put the truck up on ramps to minimize the amount of transmission fluid lost and to get the truck up high enough to work on. Cover the front left corner of the transmission with a plastic sheet and another piece over the starter to limit any spillage onto these componets. You'll need about 2 quarts of replacement ATF+4. It unthreads out of both ends with normal tools and the its not hard to tighten it back up. Fluid will ooze out of the transmission end the whole time the pipe is removed. Hope this helps. If you have a 4x4, make sure the line is not in the way of the up and down action of the front differential and driveline.

To add what Kirwin says, It's straight forward, just did mine this weekend, w/Big Bob's advice also. 3/4, and 7/8 inch open end wrenches will do you fine. MAKE SURE the fittings are tight fom Mass diesel,(where the temp sender goes) seems like a no brainer but, you don't want to crawl under again after all that previous effort. Use no teflon tape where the sender screws in to the port. Take your time, it's not hard. Brad

Graphite 6,

Do I understand you correctly that I should not use any teflon tape where the sender screws into the port?

That is correct, I did not do it as Big Bob had advised, something about helpling the grounding of the sender, I'll try to check on this, maybe Big Bob will chime in this evening.

Brad is correct. If you notice you only have one wire going to the terminal on the probe. The body of the probe is used as a ground and should not have teflon tape on it.

so teflon paste ok? or what?
No. I put mine in completely dry. It's brass on brass, so I just cranked down on it good and tight, and it sealed up just fine. Remember that it's pretty low pressure going through that line, so it doesn't take much to make a good seal.

Is there any problem using the probe that comes with the new Isspro gauge with this cooler line? Please tell me it fits and gives accurate readings without any further modifications!! When I got these gauges I thought the egt and boost would be the problem, but it is the transmission gauge that's giving me the most headaches. I can't get the probe to fit in any of the test ports without touching something inside the transmission, so I was concerned the probe might be unique and not work in the cooler line either.

Shouldn't be any problem at all. The Mass Diesel line comes with a Tee fitting, middle port plugged, meaning your probe can stick in the entire length of the Tee - approximately 1" long.

Can you post a picture of the probe, maybe with a ruler behind it?

MMead, You said you can't get the prpobe to fit into the test ports? this has me a little confused. If you bought a Mass diesel line it is a direct replacement for the cooler line on your transmission, nothing to interfere as T. L. stated with the Tee. Give us some more info if able.

Graphite 6,

I don't have the cooler replacement line from Massdiesel yet. It is the probe that came with the new Isspro gauges that won't fit into the test ports. I was hoping someone might know wether or not the Isspro probe was too long for the fitting on the cooler line as well before I ordered it. I would rather put the cooler line in than install the probe in the pan itself. Mainly because I'm scared the probe could come out down the road and drain all the fluid.

ThomasLawrence,

I've tried to post pictures, but I can't figure out how to reduce the size of the pictures. I'm going to try again tonight.

MMead, I understand now, my recommendation is swallow hard and pay Mass diesel the price, as I understand it this replacement line is where it would be one, if not the hottest places fluid will be( prior to going into the cooler),so you can feel good about your gauge being there and it's basically an OEM replacement. Hope this helps.

Brad

Brad,

I just got off the phone with Massdiesel. I spoke with someone, I believe his name was Scott, and he indicated there would not be any problems. So I've got a cooler line on the way. Thanks for the input!
