It sort of depends on your location. There are a few jigs around the country and each have their own lists.

RBergman,

The North West Bombers are having a bombing session at Enumclaw, Washington on Feb 23rd at Rob Hansons place and Bob Beauchaine was willing to put the KDP on my truck to rest. Fortunately at yesterdays PDR bombing session the KDP on my truck was taken care of.

Stan, don't wait, do the fix as soon as you have a chance.

BCaldwell's truck had the pin out too far to complete the fix. They couldn't get the keeper screw in because the pin had 'walked out' too far.

He'll have to go in next week and have his front cover pulled, the pin tapped back in and then KDP'd.

Bob.

Stan,

I'll be killing mine within a week, thanks to Bob Beauchaine's transcontinental KDP kit (enroute as we type).

I'll report on the difficulty factor and how I fare by this time next week.

randii- have you done yours yet? I need to do mine. Where is Fair Oaks? If it's not too far maybe we could set up a 1st Gen KDP party. I'd be willing to chip in on a jig.

Jay

Fair Oaks is right near Sacramento... let's wait for JLeonard to do the heavy lifting by measuring and drawing, then go ahead with the machining... .

Cool!

RBergman

I've got two times and locations coming up. The first is in Ranier OR on 1/25/03. I've got one confirmed and plenty of time for a second "kill". The next is at Rob Hansons place in Enumclaw on 2/23/03. If either one works for you just let me know and I will get you directions. :)

That also goes for any First Gens in the Portland area or anywhere on the West coast that we can arrange a get together. All I need is a supply of compressed air - I've got everything elce.

Bob

Stan,

I was at PDR's bombing session on Saturday and BCaldwell and I did the fix on my 92 in approx 1. 25 hrs which included watching the smoke show out back.

Hope I remember everything and the sequence correctly.

1) remove the fan (note the nut is left hand thread) you don't have to take the fan right out just move to the side but be careful so that you don't mess up the radiator.

2) loosen the six little bolts on the fan pulley.

3) remove the serpentine belt.

4) take the six bolts out of the fan pulley and remove it.

5) remove the four bolts from the unit that held the fan pulley and remove the unit.

6) remove the top bolt from the alternator

7) remove the lower bolt and the nut at the back from the alternator.

8) push alternator out of way but make sure it does not short out - may be best to disconnect negative battery terminal.

9) remove the two bolts from the gear housing cover that will be used to hold the jig in place for drilling, tapping and countersinking.

Bob,

I posted a message ( reply ) on the NW Bombers web

site, regarding the bomb party on Jan. 25 th. in Ranier.

Weather permitting,I should be there. I'm hoping to do

the kdp on my 1st. gen.

There are 2 different first gen jigs around, with the jig Bob Beauchaine has you do not need to move the alternator as the pin goes in at a slight angle, makes it even easier than the jig with a pin that goes in square to the crank.

Either one will not take very long.

Good luck, and thanks again Bob for putting my pin to rest,

Caleb

Sorry guys my internet connection has been down so I have had problems staying connected. Paccool it takes 1 to 2 hours - Serpentine belt, fan & fan shroud, fan pulley and fan offset.

Underdog - looking forward to meeting you and doing the deed.

If anyone is running a Horton Fan please let me know as they take a different size wrench to remove the fan.

Bob

:)
