I have my rig torn apart to replace the gear housing gasket. I had to drain the radiator before I removed it, but I can't figure out how to drain the coolant from the block. Can somebody point me in the right direction. My coolant looks a little cloudy so I want to flush and replace it.

TIA,

-john

What I have always done when I want to completely flush the block, is take the garden hose, wrap it with a rag, and put it in the suction hose from the radiator (the rag is so it's tight) & hose clamp it shut. Remnove the tstat, and put the upper hose back on. Now, start the engine, and turn on the hose, and let it idle for about 15 minutes. It will flush out all the old stuff and leave the block full of clean water. if you turn on the heater, it will flush the heater core also.

You can flush the radiator out by just putting the hose in the inlet and letting it run later.

If you do it this way, you only have to fill the rad with antifreeze.

HA HA... even on the engines (gas mainly) I have worked on that did have one, it was rusted so shut you couldn't get it out.

You can have the thermostat out in no time and drop the lower radiator hose, you can flush all you want that way. just my . 02

i am use to working on volvos and bmws, they all have drains that about all you need to screw with is poke a pick or screwdriver in to break up the crud if it's been a while since the bolt has been out
