How do I know if my transmission is slipping?

as someone once told me in my similiar thread,



"if its stock, it IS slipping"



and also slipping can only occur when locked up...

before i didn't know that
 
That's my second question, what is lockup? 95% of my driving is done out of overdrive. New to these damn automatics, the help is much appreciated.
 
when you say 95% frive out of overdrive, i assume you mean you do alot of 30-42 mph driving.

simply put LOCK-UP is where the Torque converter "locks" to transmit 100% of the power to the axles, as opposed to the torque converter using fluid to transmit motion, it locks together (someone jump in if i am wrong here)



AND you can achieve lock-up in 3rd gear (1:1), just click the o/d of button on the column shifter. i do that when i go through my back roads where i live, seat of pants acceleration goes way up



test lock by driving 60 or so and while gas still applied, tap the brakes, if RPMs goes up couple hundred and then back down, that was unlock and lock again
