Okay, maybe im stupid, but can somebody tell me how you remove the dang shift ball to get the boot off the shifter? I made a custom shifter and i need the boot for the install.
I'm pretty sure yours is the same as the '01 NV5600 shifter - *carefully* pry the plastic cap with the shift pattern out of the shift knob using a small screwdriver. (It's easy to cut/damage the knob in the process. ) Once that is off, you'll see the locknut that holds it in place. Hope that helps.
This might be even better (pictures at bottom of first page!): shifter instructions
with a bit of upward pressure, I was able to unscrew the knob without first prying the cap out. once it was off, i pushed the cap from the backside until an edge appeared to get underneath with a small flat screwdriver.
