I have a seal leaking on the shift rod of my auto trans on the 2000 model truck. I thought it may have been the pan gasket, so I changed fluid, filter & gasket. Needed serviced anyway. Nope, still leaks. So I check more carefully & I can see fluid leaking from that seal where the shifter rod/shaft goes through the case to the valve body. Anyone replaced this before? I sure hope I dont have to drop the pan again! May be simple (I hope) Any "how to" advice would be greatly appreciated!

Been there, done that. I got the tool from my transmission builder (bout $35 IIRC) and it did work. It was kinda hard to get it to "thread" in to the old seal. I had to use a hammer and tap the top of the tool as I screwed it in to get it to bit into the old seal. It worked great and wasn't too hard. Unfortunately, the little "e" clip that held on the little inner throttle valve shaft was gone it was only held in place by the linkage itself. When I removed to linkage to get the tool on, everything on the inside got all mucked up. I didn't know it til I got it together and it wouldn't shift right. I ended up dropping the valve body anyway. Got it all back together without a problem, it just took a while before I figured out what had happened. Take a mirror and check the "e" clip before you go pushing on it with the tool.
