Losing confidence

Wifes 2004 Excursion caught fire Sunday.

I have read a bit about upgrading injectors. I am thinking about doing a injector swap on my daily driver 300D mercedes sedan. Looking for a boost in MPG if i can get it with the extra power. But it is a prechamber design... are there any shops that some one know of that will be able to work on that type of injector, or am i stuck with the the stock set up?

It seems as if the mileage/power boost, people get is as a result of two actions from upgraded injectors: more fuel delivered at the precice moment, and better atomization of the fuel.

can the prechamber type diesel, see the same type improvements that Cummins seems to enjoy when the injectors are improved/refined?

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do for the old MB diesel in terms of injector upgrades. In general, you can't do much with prechamber (IDI) disel injectors. I'd play with the timing a bit, you should see some gains from that. What pump is on it? I am thinking it is either a Lucas or CAV pump. May even be a Bosch VE variant...

Evan,

Thanks for your reply.

I am able ot make out a Bosch tag on the upper front side. Would some kind of "rebuild" cleaning and adjustment of the pressure at which they inject fuel show improvements?

Or could tweeking the IP timing and delivery be the only options. I read a post the other day by a fella in the first generation forum, who spoke HIGHLY of a injector upgrade in terms of a crisp sounding ignition event, as well as quick starts and of course more fuel... and I had some hope that such might be avaliable for the boat anchor in my daily driver. .
