Another sad Ford Story....

Motor Trend Diesel Comparison

Never messed with any twin turbos? Could some one explain how they work, installed etc. ? What are the pro's and cons versus single turbo.

THANKS!

I think how they work is that the wastegated air from the small turbo spools the large turbo. Not sure if I am right or not. Could someone please go through the steps on where the air goes and in what order.

Air from air cleaner goes into large charger first. It gets compressed and sent to small charger is compressed again and sent to intercooler. Exhaust is opposite. Exhaust from manifold drives small charger first then goes through hot pipe to large turbo and drives it then to exhaust pipe. Wastegate on small charger is usually set lower in twins than with single. When wastegate opens some gas goes through waste gate bypassing small charger and into hot pipe to drive large charger.

So everyone runs twins in series, does anyone run any parallel?

If I am thinking right, lower boost pressures (no need for a HG job), no lag time, and lots 'o air? Two turbos feeding off the air cleaner, and two feeding the intercooler. This would seem to be a good setup for towing.

How do you plan on setting them up in parallel? The piping to run each turbo off three cylinders, and the room under our hoods, all feeding a straight 6 engine, isn't very efficient sounding... . besides, the series system works very well, and can be made to spool VERY quickly, like, nearly gasser action w/ the throttle.
