I have a posting looking for a used 12V to purchase and have received several responses. I am surprised to learn that they (at least some years) don't use the ecm to control injection timing and fuel control.

Are all 12V's like this through the 98 model? Is it only the 24V that you can put an EZ or other custom computer chip in to BOMB it?

What is the cost to mildly BOMB a 12V? Because the 12V gets better milage than the 24v, I thought I wanted my 2nd one to be a 12V but would modify it to increase HP. If I do, will I sacrifice milage? On the 24v fuel milage and power increases with mild mods such as an EZ and injectors.

I want an automatic this time. Are the same mods available for the 12V automatics as are for the 98. 5 and later?

Rick,
Yes 94 thru 98 12 valves use p7100 bosc pump.
The p7100 is a mechanical pump no electronics to run it. This pump has great potential for extra horse power.
As a matter of fact the 12v are less expensive to Bomb(add exrta HP).
Actually bombing mite increase but usually does not decrease mpg unless heavy right foot.
Yes only 24 valves(98. 5 >) are electronic fuel systems and cost more to bomb at same Hp as 12 valve.
I think cheapest fuel plate around $300.

Mods for 12 v autos should be no problem most after market mods are for them and actually both auto trans are about same (they both need mods).

Rick, the '96 or '97 12 valve is the best,in my opinion, for bombing. The pump is better suited for it. If you are going with an auto trans, I would not pass up a clean, low milage '94 or '95. You can safely take one of them to 230 hp by spending $300 for a plate kit and an hour of your time. If you plan to tow with the truck, get a set of gauges. Pyro and boost are always great for watching the engine and diagnosing problems.

Good luck... ... ... . John

I'd get a 96 through 98. 4 manual transmission then you get the 215hp p7100 pump. If you are looking for an auto get it in the same years because it will be a 180hp pump isntead of a 160hp pump on the 94-95. In any case, like mentioned above, I probably wouldn't pass on a nice 94-95 if the price was right.

Rick:

You can get all the modifications you will
ever need to upgrade your automatic transmission.
I believe Bill K. (Diesel Transmission
Technology) now has "complete" units
available as well as TC's and VB's. Also
BD offers the complete transmissions.

As the other members said, the P7100
pump has ALOT of potential! Joe Donnelly's
truck ("Sickly") is putting out over
600 H. P. on ONLY #2 diesel!

FYI, I am over 350 H. P. and my mileage
only dropped about 6/10ths of a gallon
after all the mods I did including the
370 injectors.

Rick,
If you go with a 98. 4, you can get the 12v motor, and a quad cab. The auto trans has all the updates and a larger pan. Easy to bomb, just start saving for a DTT transmission and save yourself alot of heartache.
