Smoke - what does it mean?

I looked at the 6 speed manual transmission in my 03 HO and I noticed there is no drain plug on the bottom. Anybody know how to change the transmission oil? What kind of full syn. would you recommend to use in it?

You may have to pull the bottom three and loosen the rest then pry the cover a little. You should take the cover off completely when it's done and wipe the bottom out as best you can with a lint free clean rag. Scrape and clean both the cover and transmission free of old sealant. Use RTV silicone gasket maker to re-seal it.

Best to take a fair drive before you drain it to heat the oil up. Also if you leave you refill oil bottles in the sun for a few hours to heat them up as well will make filling easier.

Or pull out the fill plug and turn the truck on its side. (like a lawnmower :D )

And you call yourself a moderator. That procedure is for the FORDs. Flip Over Read Directions

Thanks Guys - you have given me some good ideas. Now - what kind of gear lube goes in it?? Do you suggest a Synthetic? I used 5W30 Valvoline syn in my 92' Getrag.

Fill

I forgot to say a real easy way to fill the transmission is remove the shift tower and pour it down. BTW while you have it off you might want to get the B-D short shift kit:D

I'll play with the single bolt and a squeze bottle, before I play with all 20 of those darn little screws in the shift tower again.

Sounds like someone had a bad day with it

What weight is the transmission oil for a 2003 6speed (is that a 5600 or 6500?)? Also, have any of you guys installed the B-D short shift kit? And has anybody knowingly bought a used truck from Bighammer or Mad Bommer?

The transmission is the same as my 2001 it's the 5600. The Redline MTL is the right type for your transmission. Yes I did install the B-D SS kit. Why would I sell my truck??

You need to thank Peter @ South Bend. I was just passing on info I learned from him.

Dodge has only one approved oil. Mine with the original oil when new shifted fine, but after the dealer serviced it it was hard to shift, but how do I know what the heck they put in it on refill. They could have voided warrentee for me already. ( note a little distrust) So now MTL is in and it is back to it's old self again.
