Ive heard of people changing the 9007 bulb to a 9004 bulb but it wont fit!!! What did you guys do to make them fit. I dont have the money to but the suv light harness so i just want to run the 9004 bulb where the 9007 bulb is soppose to go. I just spent $50 on a set of PIAA 9004 bulbs so the have to work.

I can't recall anyone claiming to have replaced the 9007 with a 9004. Other than the fact that they won't fit (which you've discovered) the filaments are oriented differently (this determines reflector design) and the pins on the bulbs are configured differently - the positions of the low and common pins are reversed when you go from one of the bulb types to the other.

Probably the best plan of attack if changing from second generation non-Sport lamps to Sport lamps is to come up with a harness prior to swapping lamps.

Good luck.

you can do it... but you have to break 2 of the tabs off on the light housing. you also have to change the wire hookup, not too difficult. . you just have to match the wire input on the 9004 bulb socket. Just need a skinny small flat blade screwdriver to pop the pins out of the socket and rearrage them. 9007 bulb has the ground as the center pin, as the 9004 has the ground on one side. I dont remember but I would have to look it up. I would keep the 9007 bulb, its a higher watt bulb, and use the Silverstars, they are the best and brightest bulb i have found!

You can get a similar harness from Summit Racing for much less, about $40.

Sell the PIAA's, skip those cheeseball Silverstars (which are good bulbs ONLY outside of the US/Canada), and just get a GOOD set of H4's. (9003)

I've dealt several times with Daniel Stern of www.sternlighting.com in the past, and his info, though sounding much like an Amsoil dealer of lights, is right on.

Good rule of thumb - if the bulb looks Blue on the outside when not lit, it's reducing your light output. It may LOOK brighter, but it doesn't *illuminate* things better on the road at all... the coating in fact REDUCES the amount of light getting to the road since it has to pass through a filter.

The marketing dept. got another one. . don't be ashamed...

its cool, my buddy at Central 4WD exchanged them for the 9007's. My lighting kinda still sucks since I'm only running the single 9007's and no 9004's. Thus I dont have High Beams. At least the 9007's plug into the 9004's stock socket. I just cant afford a complete $100 harness from SUV. Is the summit harness a PITA or what???

Thanks

I am using 100 watt high beam, 80 watt low beam 9004 and 9007 bulbs. You dan get 120-100 in both 9004 and 9007. Why would you want change to a bulb that won't give the proper light because of the wrong light center, and yes it makes a BIG difference. I am also using 12ga. light harnesses that cost $35. 00 ea. ready made.
