Questions about Southbend Double Disk

Stupid comp question

Greetings-

I have the edge comp and was wondering how you guys get that smoke, is it with injectors also? I have not run mine over 3x5, don't want to blow the transmission, yet. Also, I have tapped the wire. I know that I won't get the 1000' black smoke cloud of rubber and diesel, but I thought when I step on it, it would darken the sky a little behind me. As for OAT - it has been above 90 degrees here in Corpus Christi since April with 75% humidity, just thought that info might be needed.

Thanks!!!!

Injectors Usually

Dont confuse 12 V smokers with us ... . Its a whole diffrent ball game.

You could also throw on a big ol' exhaught housing it will give you lag but lots of smoke ... higher egts tho'

Dont bomb for smoke in a 2nd gen bomb for Power Theres 2 diffrent ally ways to travel if you want smoke stop now and get a 96-98. 5 12V because to blow smoke like those guys safly its gonna' cost ya' expecially with your Auto. Trans

IT can be done ... . alot easier with a manual ,,,,,,,but get that trany upgraded and a set of injectors and on 5x5 you should be happy

You do have gauges right??

DM

Get gauges, set comp on 5x5, from a stop at idle - stomp pedal to floor at idle, watch EGT and Fuel Pressure gauges, and rear mirror, pick up trans parts from road <jk>... . :-laf

On most street trucks, smoke (soot) is too much fuel/not enough air to burn it, a lot of fuel at low boost will produce smoke. Not too sure how much stock injectors will provide.

DM is correct, don't bomb to smoke, build a motor with a balance of air and fuel, protect the drivetrain, smoke will follow... so to speak.

Just fixed my sig - I do have guages. Thanks for the info, I was wondering if I had something wrong with my Edge Comp - guess not. now to save some more for a transmission upgrade - how do I sell that to the wife?

jeez my truck smoked like a freight train with just a mild Hypertech(same as an Edge EZ) before I added my 275's. I can hang with the local 12 valvers easy in a smoke show if I shift right and it helps having stacks to see it properly :D . For the most part I try to keep my boost numbers up between shifts to minimize smoke.

You won't get allot of smoke until you move out of level 3. 5X5 on mine produced significant smoke and once I put in the BD3's I can turn noon into midnight :-laf . Ofcourse I usually control it but if I get on it at a stop light I can be a block away before cars start crawling through the intersection. :-{}

Smoke!

I leave my drag comp off till it's time to rock'n roll. With it on I can change the day to night till the twins spool up. However, I am running Mach 5's so I can smoke with no box if i wanted too. . I really try not to have any smoke at all. I never really liked that, but it is a by product of a lot of power. And I try to use it for good, not evil.

So is it evil to blacken out the head lights of a tailgater that just doesn't get it? :-laf

Get yourself some bigger sticks and the Comp becomes a just a play toy. Like Yooper says it is either off or on to rock'n roll..... but most of the time it is off. I can hold my own with just my injectors.

Lord I hope this doesn't turn into another smokers vs. non-smokers arguement. It is fun to make smoke sometimes, and is usually the right answer to tailgaters, especially soccer moms in convertables. But otherwise, I try to keep it clean.

As many have said smoke comes with power, but you should build for power, not smoke.

If I lug it down a little with the EZ alone, I can make the car behind me disappear in my rear view momentarily, I guess its all about how and when you roll on the go pedal.

Get some injectors and get some billet in that transmission.

I just installed a comp and maybe its the HRVP44 but my truck smokes like a freight train even on 1x5. I mean serious enviornmental hazard type smokin :-laf I found I needed to drop the sublevel down around 2 or 3 to keep it somewhat clean. Egt's are down from running with no box and power is at "hang onto your hat" levels. My old Raptor must have been broken longer than I thought ;)

A couple of times I was embarrassed by the smoke this morning.
