I heard some guys take off the muffler and Install a straight pipe and that Improve power and fuel mileage? My didsel Is a 04,6speed, one ton two wheel drive. I am not a hot Rodder Anyway what Is the best way to achieve good fuel mileage. :D

For me:

1) Leave the truck in the garage when I don't need to drive it.

2) Slow down and accelerate slowly.

3) Anticipate traffic and light changes and coast as much as possible.

4) TSB for better fuel milage for the 04. 5 600's

5) I installed a vented tailgate for better visibility when backing and for hooking up the 5er. In contridiction to many posts on the subject here in the past, I think it has helped my milage.

My plan is getting me about 20 MPG and cost me almost nothing to do. I don't think I could drive any kind of a small truck or SUV any cheaper than my 1 ton 7000 lb. truck.

Use nuetral when downhills are steep enough, also when coming up to stop signs or red lights. Shift before 2,000rpm and accelerate slowly. Keep tires at or near max inflation. I'm getting around 20mpg with these.
