Hi. I've only had my 2007 5.9 CTD with 160,000 miles since January, 2014 and was wondering how to test the injectors. I'm not sure I'm running on all cylinders. How do you find out or test? It starts quick without smoke and idles smooth as can be. Seems to run and drive fine but at times it feels like it's missing some power. I don't have a service history of my truck but the engine, etc is so clean you could eat off it.
I have a Edge Evolution on it and have it set to "Stock" right now. Love all the monitoring with it. Thank you for any info.
I plan on a long trip next month and want to know all is well. Herb

Easiest way I do that is to take a heat temp gun and put it on each cylinder at the exhaust manifold. Should be the same or very close.

That little heat gun goes everywhere with me. I find I can diagnose more problems with that v/s anything else.

If all cylinders were not firing it would be more extreme than a bad plug in a gasser. If you think the power is down get it on a dyno

Herb, how old is the Edge? When mine started to fail, that was the first symptom, seemingly intermittent lack of power. The edge electronics were breaking down, and it slowly deteriorated to complete failure and left me stranded on the side of the road...until I pulled the Edge off, then it fired right up and I was back in business.

just have a injector/cyl balance test done with any pro scan tool plugged into obd2 port at any diesel shop. much easier and more accurate than a dyno. i had a miss on my 06 5.9 over winter, ran some good injector cleaner through it and cleared right up. there is a bulletin about 5.9L not liking to idle in cold. they don't get up to operating temp and it causes buildup on injector tips.

The op stated it runs very smooth...........the cylinder balance test is not an accurate test.It will show you if there is a large discrepency. The op stated it felt down on power=a dyno will confirm if that is true.
