Getting ready to order gauges for my 03, and am looking at the Dipricols in Geno's catalog. They claim to match the stock gauges, even when lit at night. What do you guys think of them? Are there any other gauges that match the stock gauges in the 03s? I am thinking about 2 EGTs, (1 pre and 1 post) and a boost in a 3 gauge pillar mount.

I am really pleased with mine. Some people don't like them. As far as I am concerned they are close to the factory look as you are going to get.

Like Imills, I really like mine. Got them from Geno's along with the matching pod. The pre and post turbo should be interesting. Would you share the readings with us? Thanks.

Dean

Might I suggest having one pyro, two thermocouples, and a switch to change between them? l know someone has done that... just can't remember who. I plan on doing it. I just drilled my manifold pre-turbo yesterday for my di-pro pyro... still haven't gotten the wires hooked up, so I can't comment on how it looks at night. ANYWAY... I will run pre-turbo until I'm ready to shut down, then switch to post turbo, wait till <300 degrees then shut'er down. I know of other people, Y-NOT comes to mind, who have two pyro's and love them.

merely a suggestion, and an un-solicited description of my plans. :p

Good luck!

Andy

Oh, BTW, I do really like the look of the di-pricols during the day. I friend showed up at our tech meeting yesterday with the AutoMeter Ultra-Lite's. I like them a LOT, but not as much as the di-pricol's. Plus autometer doesn't make a fuel pressure gauge that falls into the range I feel like I need (0-30).

Thanks guys!! I'm sold!!

Andyman, I like your idea, and seriously considered it myself. Let me know how it works for you. That would also save me $$$ I could put towards the e-brake someday!!

Did you order the painless wiring kit from Genos also? If so, which one?

I will not get to install the gauges until the first weekend in March. I am going to the Idaho Bomb party, and Muddy, Harold and the gang are going to walk me through it (Thanks guys. )

I wish I could remember who I talked to about that. Do a search on DPDT switch (that's the type you have to use. ). I know I posted about that, and that person piped up. The only place I know for SURE that you can get another di-pro thermocouple and wiring harness is www.dieselchips.com. I ordered my fuel pressure gauge from them, and still haven't gotten it. So they MAY NOT be that great of a place to deal with. I'll let you know. I think the extra couple and harness are like $45 or so.

I don't have a painless wiring kit. Just going to tap to the orange wire with the white tracer behind the headlight switch. Hope to get that done this afternoon. However I may wait until the FP gauge comes in. I don't want to take the pillar thingy off any more than I have to. Right now, my thermocouple is just "stubbed" with wires hanging off the manifold. I haven't connected them in-cab yet. :{

Take care,

Andy

I had the three gauge pod with dipricols, changed to the two pod, top gauge was alittle tooo much!

Love the gauges day and night.

only problem I have is the boost gauge rattles when above 2000 RPM. anyone got a quick fix for this?

TIA

Steve

I too have the Diprocols. Three on the pillar, and love them. No noise out of any of them. Check my readers rigs for pics of them. They look good day or night. One tip, if I have to pull any of them for any reason, I will cover the regular bulbs with those green covers you can get about anywhere. Just to make them look a little greener, but its not enough of a difference for me to pull them just for that. Really not that big a deal. The fuel pressure tapped to the line off the bottom of the filter housing to the HP pump. It's a low pressure line, so you won't hurt anything and it will tell you if the filter is clogged by a bad load of fuel. The fuel gauge came with a banjo fitting that bolted right on, replacing the stock one that comes out. Good luck with your install. I did mine the same way, attended a local bombing party and had guys that knew what they were doing work on my truck. Most people that see mine, think they are factory installed.

Thanks for the warning Vaughn. I think I will still go with the DiPricols because they seem to be the best OEM match. Like the man says though, "You pays your money and you takes your chances. "

Jengle... I like the way yours look. Did you use an isolator for the fuel pressure gauge? If I tap the low pressure side like you did, is an isolator necessary?

Wow... . everytime I think I know what I want, someone else has another idea. As of now, I am leaning towards the FP, Boost, and Pyro with 2 switched sensors on an A-pillar.

Keep the ideas coming, please.

Thanks,

Steve

I have the boost gage & EGT, they work great. I get a max of 24 PSI boost and unloaded max EGT is 900 F.

The one thing I dont like is the nite time pointer illumination of the EGT gage, it does not show up like the boost gage and the rest of the stock instruments. Very hard to see at nite.

I love my DiPricols. While the EGT gauge looks a little different, I never have a problem reading it. And while they have fogged up a couple times, it always clears up quickly and never kept me from reading important information. I wired my gauge lights into my dimmer switch and they work great, and it's nice to be able to darken everything on tose long night drives... Here's a pic:

Yep, I did use an isolator and mounted it in the center of the firewall on that overhanging lip. No problems with noise, and didn't prime the lines with antifreeze. I got mine from DPP and talked to them about that and they said all you had to do was fill it at the isolator, but leave the line clear. I don't get any bouncing of the gauge and no noise. It just works. I hear the dissenting votes from some of the guys, but some of the pics I see, the gauges, even though they are diprocols, look different from what I got. I too, wired mine into the dimmer circuit with a scotchlok and spade terminal, off the light switch. They changed the color from what the 03s use, not a orange with white. The 04s use a orange with darker line on it and there are two alike, one powered and one not. I had to check both with bulb circuit tester to tell which one to tap. Works great, they dim at the same level as my dash gauges.

I have the newer version compared to yours, I like yours better and the EGT pointer looks like it will light up at nite, unlike mine.

Andy... . Check this out. Hope it works.

Why are you running a fuel pressure gauge? I thought about putting that in the third hole. How hard is it to plumb into the fuel system? Is the FP gauge a dipricol also?

Thanks... . Steve

Cool deal Steve! That's a pretty good article. It's gonna be tougher for us to drill the post turbo hole since the elbow is lower and close to the firewall. May have to drill side/bottom... or may have to remove it.

Regarding the FP gauge: I had originally thought I would add the transmission temp, but after reading several accounts of a small box like the edge pulling fp to 0psi, I thought I'd go ahead with this one. People can say it doesn't matter all day long, but I'm a little leary of 0psi. I hope to add a box or injectors this year, and want to have as much "preventitive" stuff in place as possible before I start modding. So, after the gauges, the next logical step is to free up the exhaust. This will also allow for some time to get the new boxes to market and the final bugs worked out. I don't like to buy anything until I research it to death.

I will not be using an isolator in my FP Gauge setup. I'll be using Earls Plumbing parts for the hoses and fittings for my FP gauge, and a needle valve from NAPA. Needle valve is a must. If I develop a leak, I can just shut off the fuel supply.

See ya, and Thanks!

Andy

I like mine a lot. No problems whatsoever!

See my Readers Rigs for more pictures. I show where I drilled my manifold and where I picked up the boost.
