I have the 6 disk changer and it sounds terrible. I have to keep the bass all the way down and the treble all the way up to make is sound almost normal. I'm hoping the TSB regarding reversed polarities might apply to mine and I can just switch some wires. If anyone has any information on this topic I would love to hear it.

My main question though is after taking the screw out by the bag hook, what do I need to do to get the radio out so I can see behind it? Thanks for the help.

no special tools needed. take that one screw out, open up the ash tray and cup holder, pull down the drivers side knee bolster, and then tug the radio/hvac surround bezel out... undo the wire connections at the lighter, airbag switch [wires there even if switch isn't] and hvac and if heated seats are there or push button 4x4, them leads too... then remove and you have full access to the radio which is held in by 4 screws

Nickleinonen,

Thanks for the information. Are there any special precations I should take not to do something that could interfere with the air bag operation?

i don't think so. the wires for the air bag are there, but it's just plugged into a dummy switch. best bet is to not start probing the wires for the airbag switch and you will be safe...

Wouldn't it be easier to check speaker polarity by switching leads in one door?

how are the connectors on the speaker wires on our trucks? is one side 1/4" blade and the other 1/8" or 3/16" blade? or are they both 1/4" blade?
