How do you spell the word for those little dials with needle pointers everyone puts in their Rams?? ;)

It amazes me how often one simple word is misspelled on all the diesel boards and websites I visit. Why do you guys think that is? Let's take a poll on it :p

I've never known what the correct spelling for the little dials are...

I'm sure that in some of my posts I've used gage, gauge, and guage... . so which one is it? LOL:p

Spell check wants it to be gage! Mr. Webster say a gage is 1. something deposited or pledged to ensure that an obligation will be fulfilled; security 2. a pledge to appear and fight, as a glove thrown down by a knight challenging another 3. a challenge.

Of course right below that it says," Gage alt. sp. of gauge". So I guess you actually have two choices.

snowracer, I could have added another poll selection:

"How ever it comes out is good enough for me" ;)

Once when I spelled it "gage" a buddy of mine said "that's how GM spells it. " That cured me once and for all :)

Many years ago in grammar school, all my papers would come back marked as “Careless” with all the spelling mistakes circled in red. I never could make sense of the rules of spelling because they were no logic to them. I have no trouble with differential calculus but to this day I cannot spell.

I spell it, Gauge, because my spell checker says so.

:)

i get a head of myself when i am typing. i don't usually look at the keyboard when i type, but when i do that i make many keying errors and have to keep pressing the backspace key to correct. other times, i'll watch the keyboard and not the screen and i make less errors there, but when i do, i don'g see what i typed wrong. so when i spell wrong, either i haven't the clue how to spell it, or i miss typed it... gauge is something i usually always spell right, but i have before typed guage. just miss typed it...

My Grandfather said "Ignorance shows when you speak, intelligence speaks when you write".

PS I used spell check without errors. :D

Awright, Vaughn, my dictionary has no other word between guacamole and guanine, so whattheheck is a guage?????

'Course right after guanine is guano... ... .

Naturally, because of the ambiguity, I didn't vote. I did peek, however.

Mmmm, guano

LOL @ TommyT :D

I heard about that guano stuff  Kinda makes you lose your appetite for sodas south of the border, even though they (supposedly) do not use it anymore
