How do you tell what size a turbo housing is

I am wondering how you tell what size the housing is on an HX-40. Where do you measure the 16 or 18 cm^3 at or is it cast in the housing somewhere. The label plate is missing on one particular turbo that I am looking at so any help would be appreciated.

I believe peirs told me that when the turbo is off you look up inside the exhaust housing where it bolts onto the manifold. The numbers are cast in there.
