Considering a p pump conversion in the future and wondering a few more specifics, how do you time it to the engine? On a 12v you use the timing pin on the gear housing and the pin on the side of the p pump. On a 24v it has timing marks on the vp44 gear. To do the conversion you use a 12v gear housing,24v cam gear so how do you time the 24v engine to the p-pump? Do you set the timing marks on the cam & crank then pin the pump and install it? I know different p-pumps are time degreed different, so I figured up it at stock p-pump setting then spill port timing from there. I work at Cummins Atl in Greensboro nc but have never put a p-pump on a 24v. All we do is stck repairs. Any help would be apreciated!

i would start with the dropped valve method to find and mark true TDC on the harmonic balancer after making a pointer, from there it should be normal dial indicator p-pump setting. this is how i did my 12v after reading about stuck/broken timing pin aggravation
