Yesterday marked 1 year since I signed for my truck. I'm logging engine hours every 6 months. After 1 full year this is what I've racked up:

25,547. 8 miles

648 hours on the engine.

That means I have been averaging:

. 02536 hours per mile

39. 43 miles per hour

1. 775 hours per day

Over 10 years of consistent driving that's 6480 hours on the engine. Doesn't seem like a lot for an engine like this, does it?

If you've been checking engine hours, how do they compare to mine? Most of my driving is highway, though the traffic frequently slows it down.

For those who don't know how to check their engine hours meter here are the steps:

Turn your key to the "Run" position, but don't crank the engine. Make sure your odometer is in the "Odometer" mode and not "Trip" mode (Trip mode displays tenths of a mile). While in odometer mode, press the reset button and hold it for about 6 seconds. The engine hours will then be displayed.

does this work on the 2000 model trucks hmmm. . Cant get outside right now were having a downpour WOW!!! will check and see if that works on mine, i would be curious to know my actual hrs run also.

3rd gen only.

When I had my 01. 5, I never reset to overhead computer timer. It rollls over every 100 miles, so I just had to keep track of the centennials.

5149 miles

144 hours

Avg speed 35. 7 MPH

When my truck was brand new, it already had something like 12 hours on it. That considered, my average speed is 39 MPH

WOW average fuel cost of 1. 77 a gallon were are you driving your Rig Kuwait? It's been at least a year since I saw a price even close to that average.

:)

My hours were 759 @ 33000 mi . The truck started life 3-14-03 with mile # 1 and has 110 mi a day commute... ... ... JIM

I am slowing down. I guess that is a good excuse to get that TST- box ordered!!

Miles=22178, Hours=453,

Average 48. 96 MPH

17,253/471=36. 63 mph. I also log the cumulative hours of my engine on the oil filter box at each oil change, as well as the hours of operation per tank of fuel (I simply re-set the overhead each fill up).

Klenger, I gotta say that you ROCK with those Excel spreadsheets! If you keep your vehicles in as good as condition that your documentation indicates you should have no problem getting top dollar from anyone interested in buying them, if you sell them used. If you put all your spreadsheets and other files on a CD you could also sell it. That's professional grade work.

Question for the slow speed/high engine hours folks

Guess I win the Slo-Poke award :p

Would you attribute your 1022 hours to slow driving, or lots of idling? Obviously, both will be related, but I bet a lot of the people with high engine hours and low average speeds are using their trucks at a job site, or otherwise spend a lot of time idling.

I have to laugh. I guess I idle too much at the stop lights around here. 4404 miles, 193 engine hours, avg speed 22. 8 MPH.

This would be a good way to shop for a used truck. Check the miles and hours and you can tell how it has been driven and how much it sat around idling.

When my truck gets started it goes at least 25miles at highway speeds. No stop and go here.
